Extended Warranty

Can anyone confirm the price of $1895 for the extended warranty? Just curious, I've seen some different numbers.

Also, what EXACTLY does this cover?

I am going to be putting about 25k miles on my MCS a year, so the standard warranty is not going to be enough for me.

Any input is appreciated!

Is this the extended Maintenance or Warranty that they are quoting? I know that the rate for the "Official MINI" extended maintenance is $1,400, which extends it to 6 years or 100,000 miles. I haven't heard of an "official MINI" extended warranty, so make sure what you are being offered. It might be a third party.

You need to find out if it a MINI USA warranty or after market.

Is it possible to snag the extended warranty after the initial purchase?

extended warranty

I called my dealer today and they will sell me an extended maintenance warranty for $1,195.00, this covers oil changes, brakes, etc but not repairs on things that break like transmissions or engines, etc. This lasts 6 yrs/100,000. For a extended warranty to cover the tranny, engine that sort of thing, he said they use an outside company (JMA) for that, the cost is 4yrs/48,000 for $2,874 or 5yrs/60,000 for $3,306.

I have a 2005 S convertible that has 47,000 miles on it. When I bought it new I paid around $1,300.00 for the extended maintenance warranty that goes to 4yrs/50,000. I drive highway miles and have only had 3 oil changes and had to fight to get them because my car said I did not need them yet. It still says now that I can go another 5,000 before I need an oil change but it has been over a year.

I plan on keeping my car until it dies or I do (paid more for this car than I did my first house) so I'm going to buy the maintenance warranty and the other one but not from the dealer. I called my credit union as I was told that they sell them, well mine doesn't. I'm checking into warranty direct. Does any body know anything about them? They quoted me online $2,200. for 4yrs/100,000.

$1,195.00 is a great deal...Could you please ask your dealer if they can also sell it to someone out of state... As I posted earlier, the MSRP (per MINIUSA) of that plan is $1,400 ($1,395 to be exact).

You can add the extended maintenance any time before 3 years or 36,000 miles.

My dealer is Baron Mini, Merriam, KS (Kansas City area) and I live up in South Sioux City,NE. The guy I spoke with is Mike and his # 913-671-1459. He said all I have to do is use my spare key to drive the car for a few miles then mail the key to him. All your car info will be on the key. They will mail it back. He started off saying it was $1,395 but then I mentioned that I all ready had bought the other extension so I should get a discount. Either way after talking to him I'm going to buy it. I bought my car there but it doesn't matter. In fact they now have a dealership in Omaha just 90 miles from here so I will be getting it serviced there from now on. I am going to call them and see what they quote as a price for a price on the warranty.
Still looking for an extended warranty to 100,000 miles for the major problems.

Let me know what he tells you.

Just thought I'd add what I learned today for the archives, that MINI USA doesn't offer an extended warranty. My dealer uses GE Fin. Dunno if I'll get it yet.

that isn't accurate. it will vary by state. for example in CA, only car dealers are allowed to sell extended warranty. the extended warranty is sold by the dealer and it is MINI USA warranty (though it maybe backed by a different company). this is no different than the CPO warranty that is put on used cars that qualify.

Thanx much for the correction.

having owned bmws for about 14years. i would not say it's worth it. most of the items for service I is just simple visual checks. such as, check tire pressure, check wiper blade wear, check, brake fluid, etc. they also do an oil service (oil change) and a few other actual "changes". once the car is out of the maintenance contract you can do all of these visual checks yourself! I don't know about your local dealer but my local dealer charges about $450 for service 1 when the maintenance contract is over. I can change the oil myself in 30mins or less and do the checks myself in a hour. IMO it's a waste but I'm used to working on my own cars.
