i believe if i'm not mistaken that the above info regarding the premium system is correct. i have a 2003 R50 and ordered the chromeline kit, when researching the kits they all stated the speaker rings would not work on the premium sound system. i do not have the premium sound package so the rings worked fine.

from the premium speakers on the older MINI's i have seen, the bezels around the door speakers are different so it would make it harder to attach the rings. may have changed though.

also from other accounts and my own experience. both the OEM trim kits and the aftermarket kits just stick on over the existing bezels. i went with an aftermarket kit and IMO it looks every bit as good as the OEM kit at 2 or 3x the price.

if it is in fact an issue with the speaker bezels there may be a decent chance someone will come out with an aftermarket kit to fit it.

good luck...

Recieved e-mail back from my MA stating that some cars are coming in w/Chromeline and some are not. He did say that when Molly comes in if she does not have Chrome Rings on the Door Speakers they will be installed Free of Charge!!!

Yeah, really. Premium package should equal "premium" (i.e. extra chrome)!

Hmm... Wondering whether my mini will come with chrome rings around the door speakers or not. I have piano black interior and the premium sound system. My order does say "extended decor rings"... which I am hoping means that I will get them.

Anyone with an 08 with the same config have the rings? Thoughts?

I sent the following to askmini. I'm unable to find the reply, but it basically said my MA was right and if you order the hifi option you get "dark chrome" on the door speakers. I think it's wrong... and see no reason to replace the chrome with "dark" chrome when you order the interior chrome line with the hifi option, particularly when the website and the brochure both state to the contrary.

question: Subject: Dark Chrome???
I ordered an 08 MCS with chrome line interior along with the premium package. On the miniusa site if you select the premium package as well as the chrome line interior option you see the view of the interior change and the door speakers will be chromed, not "dark chrome". Here's a picture of my interior: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ruiser-002.jpg
Also the brochure shows on the bottom of page 67 that the speakers and the rear cup holder as being chromed with this option.
"On the MINI Cooper S, and on all models with an optional interior surface finish or upholstry in leather or cloth/leather, the chrome trim is also applied to the door handles, the speakers set in the door trims, and the front and rear cup holders."
Now, I understand not getting the rear cup holder chromed since it wouldn't be seen since I also got the convenience package which includes the armrest that covers that cup holder making it unusable. But I don't understand why the website and the brochure state and show one thing but I received something altogether different.
My MA also didn't understand this and made many calls to the factory and to others. The word was that when you order the HIFI option and the chromed interior option, you get "dark chrome" on the door speakers. Looks remarkably like piano black which is the color I got for the rest of the interior, thank goodness.
I just think it's wrong that I'm told AND shown exactly what I ordered and then I'm given something else. The part numbers for the chromed parts are shown here: http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...pture00029.png
I'd like to see the dealership order these parts and install them under warranty. Would you agree that this would be the best course of action?

Thanks for the info Norm. I totally agree with your statement. It really doesn't make sense that you would lose having chromeline on the door speakers when selecting the hifi upgrade. Until I saw the posts on NAM I was under the impression from the configurer that the speaker trim would be chrome.

Will find out soon though... with any luck I'll be picking up my car tomorrow evening.

I believe that's correct when ordering the HiFi Sound option along with Chromeline Interior and Leather Seating upgrade, you automatically get "black chrome" around the speaker rings (just like I did) for some strange reason. To me, it just doesn't look right, but the guys at our dealership were quite helpful in showing us the parts sheet where it actually had the German word for "black" specified in front of "chrome". They were more than willing to order the shiny chrome pcs. we were expecting and install them at no charge. (BTW, we still don't have any rear cupholder chrome as we also have the center arm rest.) Though the black rings didn't look bad, they didn't match any other surface in our car as we chose the Brushed Alloy trim. I would think any good dealer should be willing to change them without cost to you if you still want them. Good Luck with it!

Molly still has not been adorned with the Chrome Speaker Rings YET!!.
The Dealer has mis-ordered the parts 3 times now. We have an appointment for Thursday to finally get them installed. I didn't expect and do not want the Rear Cup Holder to have a Chrome Ring, who sees it?? I'm still not satisfied with the explanation of you order this you get that...I ordered the Chrome Line Interior as seen on the Configurator and expect my car to look like what I ordered. (period)

I requested a reply since I was unable to find it... .here's the response:

Hi Norm,
I was able to locate the answer to your inquiry. Your motoring advisor is correct. If you purchase the MINI Hi-Fi Sound System, you will receive the dark chrome accents to distinguish the upgraded sound system. I apologize for any disappointment this may cause.
If there are further questions I can assist with, please feel free to drop me an e-mail. I will be happy to lend a hand.

Chrome is chrome. You can call other shiny metal finishes whatever you want, but it's not a chrome finish. Certainly a black plastic ring is not going to be confused for chrome by anyone.
