boost readouts with scan gauge 2

I have an 08 mcs bone stock. When I used my scan gauge 2 to measure boost it reads up to 28psi. I know my car is not producing this kind of boost any idea?

28psi - 14.7 (1 bar... or your air pressure to begin with) = 13.3.

Remember, here on earth we have a little air pressure to begin with... not zero.

What are you measuring/displaying? If you're just displaying the MAP sensor, you're displaying manifold pressure, so if you're near sea level, 28psi from the MAP sensor means 14.1psi (or so) sea level pressure plus 14 psi boost pressure, which seems reasonable.

If you're using one of the XGauge calculations detailed in another thread, then I'd suspect you entered something in the calculation section incorrectly. I'd go with the MAP display, and remember that it's offset from atmospheric pressure, which varies with altitude/temperature.

There was a great cartoon in the "Wizard of Id" series some years ago. Sir Rodney, the Knight, is talking to the Wizard. Rodney tells the Wizard that he saw a shooting star the night before -- does this portend something?

The Wizard replies, yes, it does!

And what does it mean, Rodney asks.

The Wizard replies, It means you're going to have an accident!

Rodney doesn't understand -- how can you tell that?

The Wizard replies, Because you're not watching where you're going!

<Takes off sensei hat. Here endeth the lesson.>

I had considered that atmospheric pressure could be taken into account, I wrongfully assumed that the gauge would account for atmospheric pressure. Thanks for the responses.

Just a note I am about 1000 feet above sea level.
