Hey--I mentioned this guy in an earlier post. Since he is the font of all knowledge regarding conservation and liberals, he pontificated that there is as much oil seeping naturally into the ocean off Callifornia as would be drilled, if the state allowed offshore drilling. But of course, those damned conservation and liberal groups, blah, blah, blah.

Can anyone confirm or refute this?

i'm surprised that no one has yet noted that SUVs do not have to pay gas guzzler tax like cars do.

i for one feel like gas is decently priced --it's incredibly reasonable esp. compared to the rest of the world (major industrialized countries) and driving a MINI, i don't even notice what the cost of gas is per gallon. i just don't care --that's why i drive a MINI so i don't have to worry about fueling up costs as much as the idiots who have two SUVs per driveway.

i don't see the big deal with oil companies making profits either. that whole capitalism thing i guess.

No, I don't think so anymore.

I'm just happy about the good gas mileage. The use of premium fuel does irk me though.

Not only that, but the fuel economy ratings of the big SUVs (greater than 8,500 pounds GVWR) aren't figured into a manufacturer's CAFE ratings. So rather than having to produce small, fuel-efficient models to offset the horrible mileage of their SUVs, automakers don't have to worry about the SUVs bringing down their average at all.

You think thats bad in the UK its the equivilant of around $70 to fill a tank here! all dependin on exchnange rate of course but in pounds thats just under £40 to fill my tank.

You get it extremely cheap in the states! I couldn't believe how cheap it was when I was in LA in July 08

Can you figure out how much it is per gallon? Or liter? I read something the other day that indicated gas was about $5 to $6 a gallon, depending on area, but that seems low. Certainly it's a lot cheaper than when we were in Italy last year.

When you say 40 (pounds), is that for your MINI?

Roughly this works out to be $7 per gallon, in July time 08 when the pound was doing well but petrol was £1.30 a litre here - that equates to just under $10 a galon.

And yes that was for my MINI.

The cost to run a veichle here in UK is horrendous and not fair, lol.
