Flat Tire Indicator

My flat tire indicator came in red on while driving on the highway today, but the tires seem fine. This is in addition to the yellow engine light, which is on most the time(stays on for a week, goes off for a day, back on for a week), but the dealer says it is a loose gas cap. Has anyone else had these issues with a 2007 MC?

My low tire pressure indicator comes on whenever it gets below about 10F degrees. I've checked the tires, they are fine, but the indicator still shines red. There is a notation in the owners manual saying this can happen.

Remember, this indicator is not really monitoring tyre pressure, but rather a measured relationship between the speed of each wheel. If one gets under pressure, the tyre becomes flatter and hence a smaller diameter and rotates slightly faster than the others. So there are occasionally false reads and low temp can certainly create this.

Unless the car was bought after Sept or so when they all have actual tire pressure monitors in each wheel. If it is the newer TPMS and the red light is on then one of the tires is flat or almost flat and you need to check air pressure regardless of what it looks like.

I'm in the process of getting together a snow tire/wheel set and had to get TPMS sensors. Hopefully everything fits.

On a side note, I had one front tire that was down ten pounds due to a slow leak on a week 3 2007 MCS. HOwever, the TPMS never alerted me of this. So, if the system is designed to detect rotational differences between two wheels on the same axel, it cant be trusted. I have an appointment with the dealer for servicing next month and will deal with it then.

Happened to me today. Outside Temp was around 11, warning light came on and when I checked the tires seemed fine. Was going to take it to the dealer to check but now I won't bother. Thanks

There is a 1psi drop in air pressure for every degree Celcisus. If your car was set to 38psi when it was 15 degrees C outside, then when it is 0 deg C, your pressure has dropped by 15 PSI. The TPMS system (at least the one for week 32 builds and later) will complain if your air pressure is not within a certain percentage of the pressure when the TPMS was reset.

This TPMS is a joke, a bad joke. Mine goes off every time it sits for a prolonged period outside in the cold. (A couple hours). I've checked the pressures everything is fine. It's actually good that the pressure drops when it's cold, more contact patch. I was at a friends house Sunday night. 3 degrees F when I left. I reset the TPMS indicator before I left, it lasted about 200 yards. I drove about 3 miles, stopped and reset it again. That one lasted about 400 yards. I stopped and checked the air pressure all 4 tires @28 pSI. With frozen hands, I reset it again. Got about 100 yards before it went off again. Drove home with the redlight flat tire symbol glaring at me the whole 20 minutes. Checked the pressure again in the garage, still all 28 PSI. The next morning, with temperatures at a balmy 14, I reset the TPMS in the driveway and it has been fine since. The car is an '07 MC. I don't know the build date, but I bought it on Dec.29.'07.

Black&Gold, put in your VIN into the owner's lounge and then go ahead and track your mini. Click on your order details and see the delivery date. The build date is probably a month before that since you are on the East Coast. There's no guarantee that your build is week 32 or later even though you bought your car in December.

One other thing to do is see if you have metal valve stems or the regular rubber ones. The metal ones use the new TPMS while the rubber ones are the old Flat tire Monitor.

I have the new sensor-type tpms on my Mazda3 and it works fine. Well I think it does anyway, since I'm not getting any warnings.

my tpms frequently goes to "inactive". the yellow light comes on, goes off after reset and some driving. I've got the metal stems; has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

Do you check your tire pressures before resetting? Are they OK?

the tire pressure seems ok; i've got a gauge and a portable compressor just in case. it seems like the TPMS just turns itself off sometimes...strange.

My tire indicator only went off once, when the overnight low was -35 degrees F. All the pressures checked fine, and it hasn't happened since. Come on, nothing works right in those kinds of temps!

Reprogramming the computer fixed my warning light problems

I took mine in last Friday- they "re-programmed " the computer both the tire light and check engine light disappeared. Have not see either since.

Bit of a pain for me I am 75 mi from the dealer but it worked. Unfortunately now I have an intermittent problem with the radio display at times the display is dark in the center but lit up red at both ends-going to have that checked on Sat-another trek to the dealer.

BTW mine is a Nov 07 build

-35 deg F? That's colder than the poles.
