no idea about reverse, but it certainly works well forward in all gears. I drove out to the coast over the weekend & had to pass through some heavy snow sections to get there. You'll see the light flashing on whenever it kicks in.

I forget- is traction control only with the DSC package, or is it on all Minis like ABS?

ASC (traction control) is a standard feature on all MINIs. I'm also not sure if it works in reverse, but I don't see why I wouldn't - ABS definitely does. I'm pretty sure it works at all speeds though. I've seen it triggered at 70+ mph.

Factoid
-----------------------

Automatic Stability Control plus Traction, which effectively prevents front wheel spin and guarantees stability. This smart electronic system uses the ABS sensors to detect any wheel slippage. When the system does so it automatically cuts power to the spinning wheel until it grips again.

It also works under deceleration on a slippery surface, if a wheel approaches lock-up due to engine braking. In this instance power is gently fed to that wheel to get it rolling again and so control is regained. A warning light comes on when the system is activated.

It works great, and def helps, esp. in rain. I've had customers tell me that DSC has saved their but though.

I've always been curious though, DSC comes in Sport Package, but most people that actually drive their car hard to need sport package, turn it off.

makes you wonder

DCS was not an option on the Classic model that I received. I'm sure it would be very usefull in the snow, slush and rain but I don't intend to push the limits of the vehicle period. Losing my road star and 43% insurance discount would be heartbraking.
