R56 How to NOT get enraged when someone dings your doors
The snot-covered kids who spill out of the side of the minivan will often fall--toys in hand--right into the side of the vehicle across from the door, which in this case would be your MINI. Neither Joe nor Jane Sixpack is going to reprimand little Britney/Courtney/Megan/Justin/Brandon/Taylor/whatever for damaging other people's property.
... so right on.
No door dings yet, but a couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went to a movie, and I parked on the end of an aisle in a parking garage. Next to my space is the driveway of the garage. We came out two hours later, and unbelievably, some a$$hat parked his truck next to me, *blocking* part of the driveway. To minimize his obstruction to traffic, he parked about 12 inches away from my MINI.
There were no dings (and believe me, I thoroughly checked), so he/she must have gotten out on the other side of the truck, because there was no room for a door to open and not hit the other car. I had to pull out of the space so I could open the door for my wife. Unbelievable.

within the first hour of taking my mini off the lot I got my first ding. When my wife and picked up the car we were so hungry we decided to stop and have a bite to eat. parked at the edge of the lot out in nowhere land, and still somebody in a conversion van parked right on top of us. Put a nice crease in the drivers door. I freaked. Now it's nothing a worry about anymore. Here in Chicago everybody parallel parks by running into bumpers to stop. They call it the love tap. I call it prematurely gray.
Just find a good place to hide the body...
Try the buddy system.
I park in the same spot at work every day. The people who park next to me park in the same spot every day. It's kind of an insurance policy against door dings. When you know the people that you are parking next to and they know you, they tend to be more careful.
took all of 15 days for stella to get anonymous damage as detailed here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=124270
little bothersome...but i was just involved in an accident in which my old car was totalled...so this is really not too bad.

LOL!!! That's an idea I've had for >years<! Just drive around with tires and we could all just bounce off each other...

Since the person tried to say it was nothing, and clearly was not with the intention of cooperating otherwise, I really didn't care how I got him to give me his info. I wasn't eating the cost of repair. And I would have gladly explained that to the cop.

Do the legwork, park away from the others. Park next to a curb or on an end. Avoid 2 doors. Try to have an assigned spot.
You know the drill. There WILL come a day, though, when you get a ding. Start working on the configurator...
Oh, and if there is visible damage and you SAW the person commit it, handle it like an accident--license, insurance, etc.
A lot of people get cars every couple of years.
That's how she absolutely does not care about
smashing her lexus into you.
I don't think that door bumper thing will work great.
I've had this happen twice (the only two times where there
was limited parking and I HAD to park there) on two different
cars.
You come out and the whole side of your car is scraped off,
bumper lying on ground. Those bumper things are fine for
monster trucks I don't think so handy for small cars.
I totally agree that prevention is the best way to go.

Perhaps having a "gun rack" in the back with a sledge hammer and/or fire axe might be a slight deterrent to other drivers?
I meant the door anti-ding thing for the door.
My ex brother in law puts a full padded car cover
on his car, plus parks in the middle of nowhere.
He's never had it stolen. (probably some type of lock on it)
