Trunk Socket Question

Today I found an empty socket on the left side of the trunk. Almost like a lighter socket. Any ideas what that is for?

It's just what it looks like... a 12V socket.

Yes, it is a cigarette lighter type outlet. Be careful with it as the MINI cigarette lighter outlets are rather fragile. I've had the rear one apart and Radio Shlock has better engineering. I really wonder what BMW was thinking.

Note that it's only powered when the MINI is on - to protect the battery.

I find it handy for vacuuming the car out with the 12 volt vacuum system that I bought at Wallmart for $9.50.
