I like it but I think it better to contrast a bit with flat white roof and mirrors and with tint on the windows... My .02.

A lot of people make the mistake of sanding a car down and painting it with flat black primer and leaving it at that...primer sucks up water like a sponge. I painted a M3 SATIN black for a friend of mine...i'll have to see if i can find some pics. Came out fantastic and look nice and sleek. That Ferrari is def satin, and the mini with the wrap is def flat. I like the satin look better. My Ducati was satin black temporarily too until i went crazy with the paint job. Satin looks more like it was a factory special color or something, flat just looks like it was hit with spray cans of Krylon, no matter how good of a job it is lol. yeah yeah i know, someone out there really LOVES flat black and is gonna come at me for it.

Correct. The Ferrari was sprayed black than a satin black final coat.

When our cars are next to each other his looks more black and mine looks more dark dark gray. His however does shine more than mine.

I think he's considering doing vinyl on his. The appearance of mine is what he was looking for. Just the meanest look as possible.

Exactly! MEAN!!!! thats what I love about it. And has anyone seen it on a 997? maybe its the round lights on both the mini and the porsche that make the flat black look great.. but I agree that it def toughens up the sweet little mini

I must say I had never thought about going rat-rod style with the MINI. But now that i see it I am drooling.

Phantasms who did your vinyl on yours and roughly what did it cost. It appears that you are pretty blacked out as well was that all done at the same time? How does the vinyl hold up to everyday wear (including snow)?

Thanks
Nyctos

The entire exterior of the car was standard astro black before this was done. He got rid of all the chrome with vinyl.

$1500 for the full wrap

Ask for Phil.

It's holding up pretty well. The mirrors are peeling because he had to really stretch the vinyl over them. I'll probably get the carbon caps eventually. He said there's a 7 year warranty. Do no consider this route if you're **** about little things. But if you want a badass mean lookin' mini this is the way to go.

I agree.
When i repaint my mini in the future I am definately thinking flat black. My mini sorta became ratrod-ish. B/W with red mirrors and red accent. Very nice looking!

Since you've doubled my posts with your exceptionally large 6 posts, you can really assert your authority.

as for the paint job, you can get a dull unsanded look from any spray paint can - was simply lookign to save him money. thanks for being all negative and what not. why dont you go see if your mini can take off from the airport in Ocala

Bring your negativity somewhere else!

If you could just "spray paint" an entire car without blemishes to the quality that this car was painted you are a talented painter. This isn't just a Krylon-Touch type job.

Show some respect! Maybe that's why your Mini is making strange noises, perhaps you're not entitled to drive one.

So my brothers sinking money into his civic and first things first he swaped the motor and is making it scary fast. The only problem is the out side looked like a15 year old beater. He is slowly replacing body panels but he had the issue that every new panel was a different color. AS it stands the car is 1/2 matte black 1/2 green and it looks sick. The hood, front bumper, a-panels, doors, rear hatch, and rear bumper is black. Its a diy paint job while he gathers the funds for a real paint job. But i try to tell him it looks real mean like that. He spent like 30 minutes painting each piece (its ALL rattle can) but it turned out great because he spent like 2 hours on the prep work. Morel: it doesn't matter where the paint came from as long as you took the time to prep

Okay.

You have inspired me to repaint my car. Here's the scheme:

Doors, rear quaters, and rear hatch: very dark green.

Entire front end (bonnet and side repeater panels), right up to the windshield and front doors: black.

Roof: white.

Kudos to whomever knows where the inspiration for this combo came from.

I've heard of non-metallic black paint being preferred, by some, over the metallic black that BMW uses, but, can someone explain what the appeal of a matte color on a car is? I'm just looking for friendly opinions.

I've never seen a car painted in matte paint except I guess primer is a matte coating. Wouldn't most people like their paint to shine/gloss/etc? I've seen the matte paints in Need for Speed: Carbon, and they look so... dull.

I think your mini just flat out looks cool! It's really unique and I don't think anybody can reasonably argue against that fact.

It does look wicked. I just recently read this article online about the trend towards matte finishes and the difficulty in doing them right. Apparently it is hard to maintain, as wear spots turn glossy after a while.

Ed Welburn, vice president for design, said nearly all automakers are experimenting with matte because it allows the automakers to flaunt the car’s design.
“It reduces the design to the very core elements because you’re not influenced by the surroundings at all. You don’t have the reflections of trees or buildings or the reflection of clouds or anything on the car because of the matte finish,” He said. “You see the pure surface development and nothing else.”

That's kind of ironic.
