Chili Red Car Paint Maintenance

Hi all!
I'm a new mini one R56 owner. My car's color is chillyred.Heard that red car is hardest to maintain,in terms of looking gorgeous and shiny like jus out frm car showroom.

Could anyone share how to maintain the paintcoat of my mini baby in tip top showroom condition?

Thanks in advance!

http://www.malms.com/

my ex brother in law has used this for years.
for years i refused to believe him.
mostly denial over the idea that i would have a fairly
high up front cost, and the bottles are small.

i started the mini on this from the first month.

"unbelievable"

is the only way to describe it.

menzerna products..

Polish and FMJ protectant ( I sue a PC orbital buffer)

if you look on classicmotoring accesorise website you will see my CR 04 as a testimonial. That car looked showroom new when I trade it for the 07 MCS

The first thing I did to my Chilli red Mini is to ensure that the dealer did not prep the car. I then washed it with a good car soap. I then applied a coat of Klasse All In One acrylic polish. I then applied a coat of Klasse sealent, and finished up with a Carnuba waxing. This is a 2 day effort but well worth it initially. It will easily last a year and only requires the normal washing. Mine is still beading after 8 months. Great stuff

You can learn a lot of valuable tricks, tips and lessons over in the Detailing forum here on NAM. Stop by and have a look.

And end up with a case of OCD and a lot less money.

Misery loves company. True OCD does not kick in until you start worrying over the condition of other people's cars. Darn, I was concerned about the OP's MINI and keeping a fellow CR in top shape.

There are a lot of good tips to detail cars at autopia.org.

After clay bar, polish if swirl marks are there and wax/sealant for protection, the most importmant thing to do is WASHING it regularly.

Agreed, I had called Classic Motoring Accessories and they had recommended the Menzerna products on my MINI. Well I'm a huge believer and it's all I use now on any car I detail. Here are some shots of my Chili Red MCS.

Hopefully in a few months I'll be ordering a new MINI though

For an awesome shine and a product that REALLY lasts, I've never been able to beat Zaino. You can buy it at http://www.zainostore.com/. I use it on my wife's red Mustang, and on my BRG MCS and it works wonders...

Whatever brand products you use to detail your car (and all have their supporters), the most important thing I have found is only using microfiber towels on your finish. Red is very prone to swirlies and light scratches and cotton towels will inflict that over time. My all red JCW is now 6 months old with over 10K miles. It's developing a "patina" of wear on it, but still no swirlies since only microfiber touches it. I've been using a combination of Menzerna, Wolfgang, and Meguiars products.

Hit it on the head. More succinctly - everybody has a opinion on car care. When I took the plunge on my road to OCD nirvana I took the Prima challenge http://stores.detailersparadise.com/...Categories.bok
Looking at results around the MINI community Prima rocks, Zaino and Griot's seem to do a very good job as well

Read up, ask questions, seek out a mental health professional cause you'll need it (what a way to go)

Aren't you just reworking the clearcoat and not the paint?

At the MOTD Car Show this year, one CR MINI stood out from the crowd in my eyes. The paint was absolutely gorgeous and perfect.

I was glad to learn the owner uses the same line of products that I use... Prima.

^Wow thats shiny. Looking good! I typically stick with Wizard's products, but I am also getting into Prima as I start using a PC for swirl removal.

I wash my 07 CR/CR MCS (22k miles) at least 6 times a year and I waxed it once, a year ago I think, with whatever wax was in the garage. It still looks great :-)

Yeah, I'm sure it looks great. At least six days out of the year. :-)

Just wondering, in the olden days (yea, Im a old fart) it was always suggested that paint should "cure" a few months before applying first coat of wax. Just picked up my new 2011 Chili Red MCS and was wondering if it'd be ok to go ahead and put a good coat of wax on her.......... (I've already waxed the hood stripes. I saw what washer fluid will do to them)
