R56 95MPH governor?
There's an electronic limiter, but it's at 139MPH.
(Note - that figure is taken from the MINI website. There are people that have claimed to have exceeded 139MPH in stock MINIs. Regardless, there's no limiter at 95MPH).

like others have said there is no governor at 95mph, when i went to get my MINI serviced friday i went out to eat with the guy that sold me my MINI, and we were going down the road the next thing i know he says man we were going 96 mph. it was running fine and i'm sure it still had a lot more power to go faster.
A bit off topic, but does anyone know why 139??? At first I thought it was in accordance with the tire speed ratings, but they jump from 130 (H) to 149 (V).
i think it is becuase thats how how the engine allows??
No limiter, but what exactly do you mean by "hiccup"?

But if such is the case then why put an electronic limiter, and not just do like other cars that have a RPM or draft limited top speed?
The MINI site doesn't specifically say that there's a dedicated speed limiter - it may just be that 139MPH corresponds to when the rev limiter kicks on in 6th gear.
(This would actually make more sense, because not all of the models have the same top speed - the differences could be accounted for by the different top-gear ratios among the various models).

Thanks
Thanks for the words. I guess I need to re-test that 95 MPH run and get batter data. I felt like the engine was being choked of air or fuel...didn't quit accelerating, but a slight lunge as if I let off the gas at 95.
i am shocked none of the geeser puds didnt come in here and complain about people speeding and how you are endangering lives and what not. Funny...... i guess if you are racing yourself its no big deal, but add another car into the equation and all the puds have a problem with it......

I drove thru Utah from Mexican Hat to Hanksville on Hwys 163, 261. and 95. We passed the first vehicle at 148 miles. Broad daylight, clear skies, dry road. The only evidence of human existence was that long ribbon of asphalt.
There is no limiter on Percy at 95.
I don't condone or encourage speeding, but, if a tree falls in the forest.....

It's not 139 - it's 133.59 mph, if posted electronic speed limitations are correct.
The car is German, therefore it's set up using the metric system. Convertibles are electronically limited to 215km/h, or 133.59 mph, sedans 224 km/h or 139.19 It's an even number in km/h - which means it wouldn't be an even number nor a number that makes sense in the SAE measurements
That said, I've travelled just under the electronic speed limiter, and I assure you its not 95 mph

HAHA Great point!!!
Well, I think the Cooper manual is a five-speed, where the 'S' manual is a six-speed, so it may be because of the differences in top gear ratio.
I'm not sure why the convertibles have different limits than their hardtop counterparts, though - the engines and transmissions are the same.
