It's only tangentially speed related. In fact the "governor" is based on revs per minute of the engine. If you were in a lower gear the engine would begin to cut out at approximately the red line on the tach. So 139MPH is probably red line or close to it in sixth gear.

Only if you logged it propperly you'll see that in 6 gear MINI cuts the the power gradully with the throttle body, mechanically yes 6th gear should go faster, but in reality 5th gear is the faster one as it does not have an electronic governor.

At least this is the case in the R53 and with all the performance claims made by MINI, logic would serve the R56 would be capable of far more than an additional 5mph.

The govenor is not rev related, it is speed related. 6th gear will go more than 139 if allowed.
