R56 07 Turbo MINI Fuel Economy n Twin Scroll Turbo Question
The supra turbo is what I was basing my assumption on. I had no idea that there were new fangled ideas out there. Thanks for correcting me and my aged assumptions.
I'm going to update my information right now on your link!

thank you for that one giantjoe
I have about 5k on my car now and I am now consistently getting about 28 mpg, that's mostly city and with the sport button always on. If I'm conservative on the highway I can get 40. I absolutely love my car

I had a MCS with MT for 3,000 miles and it got 18 mpg or so at the track, 33 in mixed driving, and well over 40 (45 on OBC) at sedate highway speed.
Now I have a MCSa and it gets between 25 and 40, depending on how I drive it, altitude, and wind.
High altitude driving always yields impressive economy.

Must be using High Test Helium?
I really do not understand some of these low figures that are being posted.
I have owned my 2007 MCS for two monthes now and have over 7,900 miles on it (all mine) I have never seen anything below 32.0 MPG. I, on most days, drive my MCS like I stole it. If I drive normally, I get between 34-37 MPG around town and have seen it as high as 41 MPG with the cruise set at 62 MPH on the highway.
Again nothing ever below 32 MPG on a tank. I always fill with premium fuel (91 Octane or higher).

My wife commutes 80 to 100 miles, five days a week, mostly highway, even with my weekend lead footed jaunts we are getting 32 to 34 mpg, we are very happy!
Oh I did notice the mileage went slightly down when in the three digit speeds!

On a recent trip to the mountains of Virginia my MCS manual averaged just shy of 35mpg in a mix of about 70% interstate highway running between 70 and occasionally 100+ mph (gotta pass!) and 30% two lane back country roads. All of this was with the sport button off.
My daily commute to work is 3.5 miles one way with no interstate driving. If I behave myself, I generally average about 29mpg. I never check the OBC, I do my calculations manually.

bullet doesn't have a turbo charger. That is the main rason your mileage is lower.
Afte I fill up the tank i reset the computer any my MPG AVG after the tank is empty is about 29mpg. I drive 60:40 hwy and city. I am on my third fill up since I got my car.
Is that a calculated mpg, or an OBC figure? If the latter, it's virtually worthless. Calculating is the only way to measure mpg. It's pretty easy to get a figure like 99 mpg on the computer! As for the OP, I consistently get 33 and a fraction, driving hard with the sport button on. I use 93 octane fuel, usually Shell or Texaco.
WOW
My MINI sips 9.5 liters per 100k at 140 kilometers
no he didn't, he just posted his question in a forum that probably wouldn't yield him many answers. the mods moved it, everything is lovely.
holy thread resurrection batman!

what shift light? did you get the JCW shift light? There isn't one otherwise.
The turbo engine is capable of amazing fuel economy, but you have to drive in a really boring fashion to achieve it. I decided not to bother to try, I still get better milage than an R53 and just as good (if not better) than Tristan's non turbo.
I'm currently averaging 27mpg, with a most efficient of 33.8mpg (freeway at 80) and a "best" of 9.8 mpg (at Laguna Seca).
I don't understand the high ones.

Same here. I don't understand the high MPG #'s either, unless they have really really light feet with only socks on!
My 07 MCS manual is getting 25mpg with 70%/30% city/highway. This after 2 full tanks. (just got the car about 2 months ago).
I couldn't imagine getting 35mpg on a full tank unless I drove on a highway for the entire tank at 50mph or less......yikes.

Thanks for the good write up on the turbo as it helps me better understand how it works.
As to mileage, my wife and I just finished a 500+ mile leg of a trip from Dallas home on our new MCS. At one point after traversing through Dallas on the freeway loop we had a mileage on the computer of 42+ mpg after 50 or 60 miles of driving in freeway traffic.
That started deteriorating as the ebb and flow of traffic caused the speeds to change in conjunction with the long hills going towards Okla City.
We were able to still maintain over 38 mpg running the speed limits or a bit above with the cruse until we got to Norman, OK where we sat in a construction zone moving a few feet at a time for over 45 minutes. We watched the mileage figures drop over 2 mpg in that tie up.
Finally we got on the Turnpike and turned the wick up. We ran over 80 mph on the 200+ miles to Joplin, MO but even then had a couple of those construction slow downs where it was stop and go and the mileage figures (as well as the average mph) dropped. Even with a couple of detours we were able to keep a moving average over 60 mph for the trip on the Garmin GPS. I would note that there is a difference in speed and distance reported by the MCS computer vs. the Garmin. The current speed as reported by Garmin is about 1 to 2 mph slower than the MCS reports.
We still were able to maintain 32.8 mpg for that leg of the trip. I might add this is on normal "regular" fuel 87
