But most office windows don't have vinyl tint either. They have manufactured tint in the window.

Swerving this back on topic - if anyone has a tint contact (Solar Solutions) can you please give a call and find out if tint on the INSIDE can cause cracking?

I have never seen automotive glass crack...due to tint = I simply communicated that the manufacturers and installers of residential windows have denied warranty claims because the glass was tinted with a reflective coating....which Increases the surface temperature of the glass.

Lynn - you're insistance that there "is no logic to it" is humorous. There IS logic. Someone else explained it: tint is applied to the inside of the glass, which then has a multipier effect. The argument that the sun is just as likely to beat directly on the side windows is also false. Take a look at vehicle paint fade......same paint, same material, but the hood, roof and trunk of a car will ALWAYS fade faster than the sides of a vehicle.

If anyone living in Houston wants their sunroof tinted at 15% to 0% call Josh at Cut Above on Hwy 3. His number is 281-216-7087. He is the guy who did my tint and he gladly does it.

It's not the film, it's the heat.

Glass usually contains some amount of nickel sulfide as a consequence of the manufacturing process. Over time, these inclusions rearrange from an amorphous to a crystalline state, making the glass more brittle. Heat accelerates this. Spontaneous shattering has been known to happen.

The sunroof is exposed to much more heat than side-windows, and a dark tint absorbs the heat. Some who have tinted sunroofs recommend (relatively) reflective tint to help avoid that.

Agreed, back to the original topic.. .

I only found this ... https://www.northamericanmotoring.com...d.php?t=106833

Got me where that product is or how it's development is going.

....I started that thread about my fix for the sunroof glare/heat in the 2002-2006 models (mine is an '04 MC ).....still works wonderfully for me, but alas, no luck, as yet, getting it produced. I sat in a 2007 at the dealer and I think the mesh screen and frame sits closer to the glass so there is less space for my shade with its brackets to fit....can anyone confirm that the 2007-2008 has less of a gap betwwen the glass and mesh compared to the 2002-2006 model years?

I sent the OP a PM, but we had the sun roof tinted with limo black and you can still enjoy the sun without the glare or heat. Money well spent
