08's already on the road?!

I'm new (first post) and am confused.

I drove an 07 and loved it....but it didn't have a few of the items I'm looking for. So I'm looking into ordering and my local dealer said he can order a 07 for me. I called 1877ASK-MNI and they told me that if you placed an order now it would be an 08. They also told me that they thought 08's had already landed stateside. But how can I order an 08 when the package codes on the web are for 07s? My dealer said you can't order an 08 until January and they wouldn't arrive until Feb/March. If I order today and it turns out to be an 08, then I'm ordering today!! (ok, maybe not until Friday)

Does anyone know if cars just arriving are 08's or 07's?? Maybe you'd spec a car today as an 07, and the new ordering packages don't take effect until January?

Anyone?

My dealer told me no 08 coupes until January, but convertibles that you can spec now are 08s.

FWIW, Motoringfile mentions December builds for the 2008s. Also, both dealers here in Atlanta believe one can order a 2008 beginning in the 2nd. week of December.

Here's a link to Motorfile's article on 2008 pricing:

Hardtop R56 2008 models will begin production starting with the December 2007 builds (delivery in Jan or Feb depending on your location). Thus, there's still more than a month's worth of 2007 models yet to be built and delivered.

Could also depend on the dealer you are at. My dealer sold all of there 2007 allocations. So any new orders they take will be for 2008 (hardtops).

I met someone at work whose mom bought a 08 MCSa. I was suspicious but didn't ask if it was really 08 model.

Thanks for the replies....although it seems there is still some confusion out there, eh?

I'll try to get an official answer from contacts at BMW....and report back if I get the scoop.

and most likely anyone who places their order now will just have a longer wait than someone who places it at another dealer and gets an 07.

we will be ordering our MY2008 Coupes in Decemeber which means arrival on the west coast in Mid February around the same time that our 2007 Coupes hit the dealers...

Convertibles are already MY2008 but have just started to land here in California. As a matter of fact I just delivered my first MY2008 Convertible this week.

Ordering a 2007 or a 2008 is going to matter on your dealerships allocation schedule. We are currently still ordering our 2007 Coupes although we do not have too many slots left in our allocation for MY2007 hardtops.

Amanda,
Thanks for the info! I have read the motoringfile article, but am looking for more detailed MY08 pricing information so that I can option and price a 2008 car exactly the way I want it built. Do you know when dealerships will be able to share that information?

My local MA said he can order in January - which sounds incorrect according to everything that I've read to date.....

Well, They just allowed us an allocation for 08's. You can technically order one now but it won't be here until first few weeks in Feb.

His allocation might be full until then, who knows

maybe they meant their mom put an order in for an 08? im pretty confident that there are no 08 models (hardtops at least) on the road yet. if week 45 production 07 r56's havent even finished building, theres no way the MINI factory has already started pumping out 08 coupes.

I think the mom doesn't know what year car she is driving. It must be a 07.

'08 convertibles are out now but production for the hard tops will not be until december. You CAN however order a '08 hard top, it'll just take longer for delivery.

Hope that helps.

My MA just let me know that now he can order either an 07 or 08 hardtop with delivery to be in (late) January for an 08 hardtop. Of course now I may have found a used 07 locally that sounds really interesting.....hmm
