How do I reset the MPG after fueling?

The manual said to press the button on the turn lever and hold it for approx. 2 seconds. However, I noticed that it initially showed flat lines and the MPG readout increased gradually, but is not stable. The MPG readout is only 13 MPG. It was averaging about 32 MPG before I pressed the reset button. Did I missed a step while reading the manual?

Sure that button wasn't the DRAG CHUTE??

(Couldn't resist)

I have NAV and that is TOO easy to do for 2 sets of calculations, Wish I could help for a car without it..

You did it right. Push and hold the button, it will show flat lines or zero mpg and will mpg reading will increase as you drive.

you can also reset it via the "computer" setting you can access on the radio screen in the speedo.
Press Menu, scroll to comp and push the button on the ****. That will show you mpg, avg speed, range and temp. Each one is selectable and you can reset via that.

The 'onboard info' on the nav system resets when you push the stalk button. But the 'trip computer' doesn't. Anyone know what the difference is? same calculations? How many miles does it consider in its average? Sems like not as many as past vehicles I've owned.

I'm getting 26-28mpg on average. I often wonder if some people are quoting numbers in the 30's after coasting downhill for a bit (when the mpg pegs at 99.9)

Most people with high number are either quoting the OBC (but not likely the continuously updating on) or are doing lots of steady speed highway driving. On an open LIE last friday I pushed my mpg to 31+ after a week of city driving and my range into the 500's. Having the sport button on or off makes a difference, as does the use of cruise.

Thanks for ther info. everyone! As DanF mentioned in his response, the avg. mpg reading is increasing as I drive.

I also did not know that you can reset the other readings such as avg. speed and etc..

To have a happier MPG show up, reset the MPG while coasting down a hill. That way instead of watching it crawl from 10 to 27, you can watch it slowly drop from 50.
