R56 Now this is cute...
the FJ! thats what I was trying to remember. Ya it looks almost like a replica
the fj did grow on me though, I would just never personally own one.

Thankfully, these pictures we see are just concepts. It should (hopefully) at least resemble a Mini by the time it's done. I told my buddy about this and he said I should just put a 9 inch lift on mine and some 33" Super Swampers. Lol. I can't wait, a Mini SUV with 24"'s Oh, that'll be the day!
Please be respectful in your posts for this tread towards one another.
I think we all agree that this SAV isn't appealling to most of us.

I rather like it. I have flipped back and forth between sportier cars and SUVs for years, never finding that great combination. I prefer smaller but 4x4 and off road capable. My family and I (wife, 2 kids and a dog) cannot go camping in my Mini. But with this one that might be possible. Now, of course I would still want decent handling and good power. Make this is an S version and I would definately consider it. Maybe we could trade in my wife's minivan on this! There is nothing wrong with Mini making multiple models. I also agree it would be really cool to see Mini come out with a 4x4 street Mini Cooper. Maybe in a 2 seater version as well. All of these are great ideas and have their place in the market.
Cheers!

you know, the white one from this link:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/au.../mini_suv.html
is actually starting to grow on me (much more than the red one in the first post) This potentially could make a great second car when my warranty is up in my MCS and all bets are off
. One thing of interest however is that this article states it will still only be front-wheel drive
. MINI needs to embrace AWD, especially for an SUV (but an AWD JCW would be a monster!)

Everyone - because of the strike that was issued last night I've cleaned up this thread in an attempt to get it back on topic. Just wanted to let you know where some of the posts had gone.
As for the design itself I believe that there will be some type of all-wheel drive SUV-esque version of the MINI at some point. I'm not really thrilled by the idea since what I would like to have something that would actually have enough ground clearance to navigate some of the mining roads in the mountains of Colorado when I'm out doing a little photography. I guess I just need to buy a jeep for that purpose and continue driving my classic (which drags going in and out of my driveway) for the fun stuff

As long as it ends up being more along the lines of a sport wagony thing (I'm thinking Rubasu Outback, here) rather than a miniHummer I can deal with it.
I understand from a business side where SUVs continue to be hot sellers that it makes sense to get into that market. It just seems a bit hypocritical coming from a brand whose main marketing angle has been to 'Think small'.

Too much Mutual of Omaha watching as a kid
I would however like to see a higher performance all-wheel-drive rally inspired MINI. Something like a STI/Evo like equivalent for the MINI...now that would be fun!

I would really like a fully restored diesel-based Defender 110 so I could "safari" it through the back country of Colorado and Utah...I'll need to win the lottery to do that though

If there is going to be an AWD MINI, it should have an adjustable height suspension (like the old Citroens) so you could raise it to clear rough terrain and lower it for good cornering.
A jacked-up AWD car that is styled like a MINI would be too far from what makes the MINI appealing to me. It might as well be an entirely different car.

AWD on a car platform is great for the great majority people in urban/city environments. But some people - like us and our Discovery - actually take our SUV's offroad and into the backcountry. If Mini offered a real SUV, as opposed to a soft-roader, that's small (read: better on gas than our Discovery), I'd be interested.
Who better then, to make the worlds best small SUV?
