Finalizing my order, suggestions?

Ok I'm about to pull the trigger on an '07 MCS. Here's what I've got so far, let me know if I'm missing anything drastic.

Chili Red/Black Roof
White turn signals

Sunroof
MFSW
Rear foglights
Rooster Red interior accents
Piano Black Dash
LSD

That totals out to $24,050.

Then, in a separate order, I'm going to place this order from Morristown MINI:
JCW Aero Kit
Checkered Sideview mirrors
Checkered Door handles (unless I steal them off my MCSC before I sell it)
Checkered rear view mirror
R99's in anthracite

THEN, I'll order some wrapped headlight and taillight rings from Lagston and install the white/black pinstripe double viper stripes I've got sitting around from Aesthetic Creations.

So, what am I missing?

Does LSD really give you a noticeable difference from stock? I may take this car to the track every once and a while, but it certainly won't be a track toy.

Sport package for the DSC and 17" wheels. If you are not going to track the car as is, you might consider the all season tyres. I do not think you can get LSD with the Automatic Tranny.

Dsc, lsd, xenons, auto wipers. Might as well order the sport package and get "free stripes."

BTW, the auto air doesn't work well (at least in Texas)--I'd skip it, and order the rest of the premium package separately.

I actually don't want the xenons. I'm tired of having to wash my car everytime my xenons get sprayed as it is. I'll probably regret it later, but maybe I'll retrofit them in if I really miss them. I'm also not interested in the factory stripes since I've already got aftermarket ones just waiting to be installed

Dude nice, for some reason I thought that if you bought the 2 separately it came to the same price, but its actually $200 cheaper!

Front fogs come standard don't they? I'm considering the LSD, but I doubt I'd get that much benefit out of the DSC to be honest.

You're going to sell that beautiful convertible? Wow. The front fogs do come standard on MCS. I think DSC is a good safety feature. We skipped the LSD. I like the auto air, which I got with the premium package. Good luck.

LOL buy my car! I'm worried that I've missed the prime time of selling a vert, but we'll see. Thats the problem I'm having, if my car sells well then having these options is all fine and dandy, but if it doesn't and I have to trade it in? I'm going to be hurting.

the DSC and LSD are complete different animals. One keeps your car from sliding all over the place and the other keeps the power to the wheels that slip. From a safety standpoint, you gotta get the DSC, the LSD is more optional.

DSC

All the safety stuff about the DSC is a bunch of hooey, the real reason to get the DSC is the hill-assist. I would have never ordered it myself, but getting the car with DSC meant the difference between just intercepting one in transit and actually ordering one, so I went ahead and got it. The very first time you're on a hill trying to take off with Bubba and his beater truck on your back bumper the DSC will have paid for itself.

After 8k miles driving mine with the LSD, I can't imagine ordering one without getting it. Between the LSD and upgraded rear sway bar the car on stock suspension out corners almost everything on the road, even other Minis. I consider the fact that the car goes exactly where I point it a very important safety feature.

We just ordered our MCS.

Laser blue/white. Bummed that you can't do oxygen blue, because it looks so retro.

Went with the LSD and sport suspension because it will see occasional autox duty.

I skipped the Sport package because I'd rather have 16" all-seasons for city/winter duty (less curb rash), and the Xenon lights don't do anything for me. I'll have an extra set of track rubber.

Got DSC, though, as a separate option.

Got premium, because I dig the giant sunroof.

Bluetooth--have this on my 335 and love it.

Got CWP because heated seats are mandatory.

Got 'ette because we have a baby; as much as I want cloth seats, cleaning food etc. off the 'ette will be a lot easier.

Got rear fogs because they look cool and are $100.

Think that's it. The waiting is the hardest part. I just hope it isn't snowing by the time we finally get the car.

Carefully consider those things that are much costlier, or prohibitively expensive or impossible to add later.

LSD with the car is $500. Later it would be about 3x that.

Rear fogs would be very difficult (if not impossible) to add later. Definitely not for $100.

I'm not sure of the cost difference, but if the JCW aero kit is not too much more added later, personally I'd wait.

Question: Who is Lagston? I'm planning to do something similar with my headlight rings, but was just considering painting them.

The LSD is the most efficient way to get power to the ground. With all the torque of an MCS it is a good idea. Or, you could put 225 wide wheels on the front.

You would get benefit from DSC anytime you start on a hill. I'm quite good at hill starts with my previous car, but I like hill assist on the MINI. DSC is probably going to be of value if have to do accident avoidance, such as the elk carcass that just took out a MINI recently. Most of the time, you don't get much benefit out of seat belts or air bags. The purpose of DSC is to help keep them useless.

Besides rear fogs, the other option that people regret not getting, and can't do much about later, is the Anthracite Headliner. Glad I got it.

Ok, I'm sold on the LSD. The only thing is that I've never driven a car with it, so I honestly don't know how much of a difference it'll make. At least this way I'll be safer than sorry, and it sounds like it's a necessity for auto-crossing.

You will absolutely not be disappointed in his work. He uses high quality vinyl that is much less likely to chip like paint would. He's also obviously a perfectionist because the pieces he sent for my current MINI are flawless. Heres a couple of pics of what I mean:

You'd never know it wasn't stock. It matches the trim exactly. He also can do them in a gloss black to make them look like they were painted. Highly recommended.

Based on my personal experience: don't do it!

Yes it is a fun car, but only when they are not at the dealer being serviced.

I have 1,800 miles after 6 months. My Mini has been at the dealer more time than home. It just entered week 5 for a VERY minor dent and replacment of weatherstipping. They don't have any parts for these cars. I have had 3 check engine lights requiring re-programming the computer. One failure by the transmission software. Just not enough for a lemon law buyback.

I tried Mini customer service. They won't help me. The dealer won't buy any 2007 because "we are aware of the problems" and don't want any used ones.
If I ever get my car back, it's going to the auction.

In the mean time, all I can do is try to help someone else from making the mistake of buying an 07. If you have to have one, wait a few months until they fix the problems.

I'm sorry about your troubles, but from what I've been reading, there have already been multiple fixes since the first-shipped cars and the newer ones seem to be much better. This is a common risk that you take for ordering a new model vehicle and your story is far from the normal experience of owning a MINI.

I've got one of the earliest (week 3 build), and my 7600+ miles have been largely troublefree. Yes, mine needed the cruise control update, and I am on the waiting list of the SZL module, but the car has been perfectly driveable since day 1. Currently ordered cars wouldn't even have these issues.

Oh, I forgot, there was a "snapping" sound in my clutch pedal...no biggie, and now fixed. Never was a problem shifting, though.

I have to wonder how much of this is a dealer problem.

agreed

After this past weekend I'm now over 10k miles on mine, picked it up end of June. I (knocking on wood) haven't had any issues so far with the exception of the hood scoop aparantly melting. They replaced it right away, though, and it didn't affect drivability at all. I think they shoulf have most of those early teething issues worked out by now.
