R56 China Made Engines on the 2007 MINI
Ugggg. This is going nowhere. Forget I ever saw it. Apparently for completely inexplicable reasons, CHINA was mistakenly entered where France should have been on a MINI window sticker, in violation of Federal law. Either that, or a few posters decided to coordinate a hoax for the hell of it. In any case, I don't give a crap anymore. This all started because I had the nerve to suggest that just because something is made in Korea, doesn't make it bad and doesn't mean the vendor is unethical.
Don't go away, you need to keep padding your post numbers........
A few Prince Engines said they came for Japan. Real or not... China was never mentioned to my recollection.
The Tritec engine rights were sold to China this last month. So no more Tritec parts from Brazil.

This is what happens on NAM all the time some misinformation is posted and before you know it it's a fact. If I remember one person had a sticker that said China and I believe it was then found out it was a misprint.
Think about it there is a plant in France that had the tooling to make this engine that might be all they make, PSA does not send the tooling to China to make a hand full of engines and nobody in China has the tooling so how do these engines get made. There's more to make an engine than making a sweatshirt.

You are CRAZY annoying.

Anyway, I'm not sure why everyone keeps mentioning the Tritec engine and Tritec plant. We are in the 2nd Gen forum. Our R56s DO NOT HAVE TRITEC ENGINES!!!
Why would having something made in Korea make the vendor unethical?
here's where the controversy came up...

You are all so uninformed.. A lot of Minis are made in China... from start to finish..!!! Comon, get with the program.
As a matter of fact, they have all been recalled cause of led in their paint... So if yours says MANUFACTURED IN CHINA for Mattel you may want to consult you sales advisor!!! LOL

? There's a pretty good explination as to "why" in there, somwhere...
. So now we can't even mention the R50/52/53 in any of the 2nd Gen forums? That's gonna be tough... and pretty unreasonable IMO.
The vehicles in question would have to be the 2007 cabrios. That tooling has been shipped to China. I doubt if they are in production yet and believe, from other automotive ariticles, that they will not be producing engines for BMW. I assume BMW has stock on hand for the 2007 and 2008 cabrios. I'm a little concerned about parts for my 2005 but also assume that the aftermarket parts which will end up coming from China will be much cheaper than the parts coming from BMW.

At the risk of starting an argument, do you have a link to info about the Cabrios?
HEY!! Let's not let facts get in the way of a good argument!
I have not read the whole thread but I read the beginning a few days ago.... I am reminded that I was not too happy when I found out that the Tritec motor was designed by Chrysler and made in Brazil and in the long run it has worked out pretty well....
To provide me the opportunity to say funny and witty things. (That is, if you ignore this, and maybe 20 or so, other threads).
Looks like msh441 is right, it's Japan not China:

Post #33 has the window sticker scan.

Even the "East Jabip" place of manufacture Pshop is in that thread, lol.

That doesn't change the point I was making.
Nor does it change the fact that I was essentially called a liar by someone using a rediculous set of "facts" to support her accusation....
Lynn - the only discussion I recall about the R56 engine sourcing was the one linked above and the source in question was Japan. The OP from that thread posted a scan from their label that appeared to say Japan. I downloaded and looked for any obvious tampering, found none - not to say that it was not but I have no reason to suspect - and then I immediately tampered with the copy to make the above posted lable with East Jabip as the engine location of manufacture.
I think most R56s were showing France for the engine, and Germany for manual transmissions (Gertrag) and Japan for automatic transmissions (Aisin). There was some speculation that Peugot's relationship with Mits may have been the reason some early build engines came from Japan, but there was never an evidence of Peugot and Nissan sharing this engine. More likely the window sticker, which is printed at the VDC in the states was filled out incorrectly. But there was never an explanation.
