I actually test drove a brand new 07 - which is what made me actually WANT a Cooper S in the first place. I then realised I couldn't afford one new and found a MY05 with low k's - and totally loved the drive as well - so I bought it.

I would buy a new one if I could afford it, but since I couldn't I'm making do with what I COULD afford and still love it.

Give the guy a friggin break!

if we didn't tolerate posts like that one over 50% of all NAM posts after the first spy shots (probably even before, based on conjecture) were debating these vary same things! Tons of threads on Style studies, turbo vs SC, al block vs iron (try to get 600 HP out of the Prince Al block, like our Gen 1 crappy Neon engine with it's lowly iron block!). So it's taken the OP some time to actually come to and articulate his position. At least he stood up to be counted. Stated his positon as to why.
I'd say there were more problems with lots of the replies than the original post. But what do I know!

It never ceases to amaze me how some people feel their opinion is so sought after, they go out of their way to make a post. For some reason, I do not feel it would be appropriate to go into the first gen forum and profess my dislike of the 06 model Mini, compared to the 07. At least I test drove one before I decided.

Yet, there are a number of people who have done just that in the second gen forum. Essentially, these folks are either trolling, or they really will not ever own another Mini. Whatever the reason, there is no point to it.

And free speech does not apply to a bulletin board. We are all guests in someone's home and are expected to act accordingly.

And I'm sure there are original Mini owners who don't like the design of the 02-06 MINI. Get over it already...

As another poster said, the OP may have posted just to start a heated argument. I am thrilled to see that didn't occur. I owned an 04 and own an 07. I love both. There's things I like more in one than the other. So?

Long live the sh*t stirrers!

1) There was no differentiation of the generations until recently. It's a post about a 2nd gen, and this is the second gen forum. Totally appropriate location.

2) What's the deal here? We only willing to support and tolerate people who share our exact same position and opinions? Last I looked, this wasn't the current Bush administration!

Lighten up, discuss openly, and get over the fact that there are those that don't share your opinions! I"m not a troll, but I really think that lots of you that want to stifle discussion are off base. Really, all those with negative posts like "just go away" or whatever really would have done more to kill the thread if they just hadn't responded at all.

honestly, I still can not tell which is which

if I see a clean MCS I really cant tell if it's an 06 or 07 the changes are minimal and you have to know what they are to know what to look for

Ultimately, it's not the opinion at issue, but how it is presented. It's the "I didn't like what you did" vs. the "you are an idiot because you did that" thing.

My issue is that someone formed an opinion based on looks. That's fine and all but he seems to have confused us with people who care.

why did you post?

But really, there are TONS here who make very significant decision based on looks of the car. So what if one more did it and let people know? I actally think there are more of those that do cosmetic mods than do suspension and performance mods. God knows SEMA is full of crap to change the looks of the cars.

I actually haven't stated an opinion here about the 56 vs 53, but I really think comments stifling converstation have no place here, unless the poster did something inappropriate. Saying "I don't like X, Y or Z for reasons A, B and C" isn't inappropriat. If one don't think it's a worthwhile conversation to participate in, then don't. But "I think this discussion should be terminated" isn't fair to those that want to participate. It's very, very undemocratic. Why should anyone here be governed by another members judgement of what's appropriate content when it's well within site guidelines? That's why I keep posting in this thread, and I really hope that some will think about posts like some in this thread in a different light.

Matt

Given how closely the R56 looks like its predecessor, you must like the prior generation either...
