So buy it in Orlando where there is very little wait and MSRP,then drive it home....

So...simply look at the new options for '08 (only a few) and determine if these are things you really, really want. If they are...wait. If not...get an '07. Honestly, I think the real issue w/ the '07s hasn't been w/ build quality, it's availability of options that are becoming available over time (secret compartment, oak steering wheel, OEM alarm, manual tranny, and others). That'll drive you nuts...but it's been part of the fun, too.

Bottom line, unless you have a really good reason, it's not worth denying yourself driving a MINI. It's a fantastic car!!! I was going to wait for an '08 and circumstances realigned so I could order back in April, taking delivery end of May. It has been awesome!!!!!

Life is short. Enjoy driving the MINI as soon as you can. Then when 2008 rolls around you can regret not waiting as you hold the window toggle to raise the window.

I'm on the cusp of ordering my first MINI. After driving one at the dealership a couple of times, there's no way I could wait until the '08s are out. I'm trying to hold off until end of August (will have more for down payment by then), and that's difficult enough.

Honestly, after reading up on what's different on the '08s, there's no compelling reason for me to wait. I want to start having fun ASAP.

First post by the way although I've been lurking for a while.

I ordered my MINI from Rasmussen on 7/21 and it is on the TAGUS as we speak, so I don't think that it is a 4 month wait to order a MINI in Portland, although your mileage may differ.

Hey X Ray, was your car an early build? I read somewhere that clutch / trans problems seemed to be more prevelant on the earlier builds - the later builds seemed to fare better. I'm hoping this is the case.

West coasters...

Also check out Sandia MINI in Albuquerque, NM. (www.sandiamini.com). I'm not affiliated with them, just own an '06 MCS and they've been really good to me WRT service and warranty work. They seem to have many '06s and '07s in stock, so if you'can't wait, take a peek. I've never bought from them, but probably will when the time comes to replace our current MINI.

Fly in, drive a day or 2 home.. What's not to like?

So the only "new" things on the 08 are auto up driver's window <yawns> and "optional usb" connection (and nobody knows what the heck that means or if it even applies to the iPod which does not have a usb connetion anyway). I'm underwhelmed to say the least.

I ordered in early Feb and took delivery on May 19th....the current clutch that is glazing over was only put in two weeks ago
there are 2600 miles on the car, and the new clutch is only 1400 miles old and squealing like a stuck pig

Oh man, that sucks.

I wonder if having an S makes any difference - I assume the transmission is the same for the base and the S. Does anyone know if these issues are typical of one trim over the other? (sorry - I'm sure plenty of people know - I mean, will someone share?)

Clutch problems, you might want to review your driving technique.

I am 110% sure it's not my driving technique. I have been driving nothing but manual trans vehicles for the last 12+ years with absolutely no issues.
I also, again, state that there has been a multitude of MCS manuals that have had the same issue of "normal driving" glazing of the clutch. There are multiple PUMA reports regaurding the issue. I'm thinking there may eventually be a recall due to the number of reports.

Regarding the post above that "ipods don't have a USB connection anyway"; how do you hook your ipod to your computer if you don't have a USB connection?

Grats on your order. That 3 month wait is a killer. I know..I'm on it myself. Ordered third week of July, told a 3 month wait. Just stay away from posts with people just receiving their new vehicle with pics. Drives you nuts.
