Rubber floormats slip
My 2007 MCS's rubber floormats slide around. My 2003 MC's rubber floormats have velcro-like material on the back, which is lacking in the new mats. ANyone else notice this?
thanks

yep
I had the same problem and added some velcro (hook side) to the underside of the mat. You can buy the industrial strength stuff at wal-mart. It's been a while, but I remember putting a small bolt through to ensure it didn't move.
I had that problem for a while, then I realized that there is a little lip on the map that is designed to slide into a little slit under the gas pedal. I think there's one on the other side too. That locks it into place pretty well!
Do they actually screw into the metal floor? Or maybe just into the carpet and sound deadening material.
So, this problem is only happening with the rubber mats? I'm surprised it's not happening with carpet mats. Aren't they rubber backed too?
I was planning on getting the rubber mats but may go the carpet route if nobody seems to be having the problem with those. Any feedback?

I read about this several weeks back but can't find the thread at the moment. Many owners complained that their mats either did not come with the attached discs that were supposed to be there during pickup and/or that their service guys "mistakenly" forgot to add them back to the mats after service. I drove around without mine attached for a week after I picked it up (I picked up my free mats the day after I bought my car and didn't think to ask the service guys to install them for me) before I took my car back and asked my MA to install them. It's a really simple job but I was afraid that I would be harming my baby if I screwed the discs into the carpet. I stood and watched my MA apply small force with the palm of his hand to the disc and push it into the carpet - no harm done. Then (also with the palm of his hand) he screwed the disc into place so it was secure - entire process took about 20-30 seconds. I was shocked since I thought it took more than that (even though the instructions that came with the mats seem simple once you see it done) and I was sure I was going to see gaping holes/tears in my carpet. But voila - there was nothing to it and now I have floor mats that stay in place

Gents, I had the same problem with my new MCSa when I bought it last month. It was one of those little annoying things that shouldn't happen with a $25+K (big + in my case) car.
I did a search here in the forum and found that the mats came with two 3" diameter plastic discs (with 'male' "velcro" (it's plastic, but it works) that screw into the padding below the carpet (I was surprised at just how thick the padding is). I called my MA, and he put a pair in the mail to me - apparently they forgot to put 'em in the car when I picked it up.
When I got the discs, I looked for a hole on each side to screw them into, but there aren't any. I simply got my awl, and punched a small hole in the carpet below the velcro portion of the mat, and screwed the disc in.
Since I did that, I've had zero problems with slipping mats.
If you didn't get the plastic discs with your mats, call your MA - now! You'll be glad you did.
Note, this only applies to the driver's side; the passenger's side mat has no velcro (at least mine doesn't).

!Thanks for the explanation. My circumstances were similar when I picked my car up, just chucked mt free mats in and away I went. Guess I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask for my discs. How many are there and did they attach the passenger mat as well?
They are only on the driver's side. You might be able to order an extra set for the passenger side. I believe the passenger mat has the area for the disks molded into it, but you better check to make sure.
Rubber mats
The cocoa mats do look nice, but I live in the country, walk in dirt frequently, and like the functionality of the black rubber. But I'll admit it is boring.

Motoring Assistant -- the equivalent to a salesperson at other dealerships, but MINIs tend to sell themselves. So, they are mainly there to assist you with your obsession.
If you get your cocomats muddy, just pull them and hose them off and hang them in the sun for a while.. they will drain quickly and drip dry and be as good as new. Jeff's mats will NOT slip.... they are rubber backed (no water will get through to your factory carpet) with little nubs that dig into the carpet to prevent slipping... they are heavy and tough. They also fit like a glove. I'm not trying to sell these things..Jeff does that.. just trying to help you eliminate a source of irritation.

The original post was not about which mats were the best economic option, it was about how to stop them from sliding around. I will admit that cocomats are not cheap, but most things that are really nice and work properly are not the cheapest options. Instead of buying a MINI, they sell Kias and Hyundas also.
