Are you sure the checkered cloth wasn't online? If I recall, it was the last option...scroll all the way to the right in the configurator. Strange to have the other "free" option kind of hidden like that, eh?
I also agree with dropping the leather but NOT for the reasons Birdman gave. I think leather is always nicer than an imitation, BUT that doesn't make me right. Some people just don't like leather, and I don't bash them for it. However, this doesn't sound like it's going to be your primary vehicle, rather your daily commuter, so saving that money makes sense for that reason. But, I've got leather in a 8 year old SUV with no rips, cracks or signs of wear. How long do you need it to last? If you listen to Birdman, you'll end up with 4 wheels and a Nav system.

For the record, I LOVE leather. I have real leather in all my cars, except the MINI. In fact, now that I htink of it, I have never bought a new car without real leather, until now. And like I said in the first post, the MINI's Leather is nicer than the leatherette, feels better, looks better. BUT, it will NOT last longer, sorry. The letherette on the other hand will be around long after we are long gone.
And also for the record, ALL of my cars leather seats, are cracked. That includes a $75k Audi A8. It's just how leather wears. My F-150's leather is a whole "nother" story. It's cracked, ripped, stained, rotting... and the tuck is NOT used as a work truck, and is only 5 years old (90k miles). The leather in that thing is horrenous. Anyhoozle.
how are you destroying your leather like that?
The leather in my 15 year old m3 still looks new, do you use conditioner on it?
You do have to care for leather, one of the reasons I went cloth on my mini

Radical response
Cory,
I'm sure that I am committing a mortal sin on here, so I apologize ahead of time.
If you are really trying to save gas, why not get a Toyota Prius. According to the updated mileage reports on Fueleconomy.gov, it is supposed to get 48 city/51 highway. The base Mini with stick shift is rated 27 city/36 highway. The Toyota take regular gas as opposed to premium. It also has lower CO2 emissions 4 tons versus 5.9 for the Mini. You will also find that Edmunds.com rates the Prius very low for cost of maintenance. Sadly, the Mini has a "HI" rating for cost of maintenance. If you still want the Mini, I understand. It does have its charms.

LoL
BINGO! But the Audi has top notch leather in it. It cracks, that's what leather does.
I got in the game late. Nice configuration, very sensible. If you're in sales and in the car 250 miles/day you must use your cell a lot. If so I'd consider bluetooth. I have it and it works great, I just don't use it much, but you might. No fumbling, never take your eyes off the road. Nice.

But I can see why the cost of the built-in NAV is of no consequence to you. A $75 Audi? You're obviously loaded!
I'm glad you were able to see the humor in my jab. I had to say something though. It's like everywhere I go on this site, there's a picture of Birdman's freak'n Nav system! There's no escape!

...and a gun rack.
I just spent several weeks staying in Rustic Canyon, which is one of the choicer neighborhoods of the Pacific Palisades, CA. Schwarzenager's house is about a mile up the creek. Spielberg's house is up on the edge of the Canyon. Adam Sandler is building a house in the Canyon. Then there is the scriptwriter for Schindler's List, etc. Houses cost in the millions, 4.5 being the current asking price. Anyway, there are quite a few MINIs in the Canyon, but Prius' are everywhere. It seems to be much hipper to be ultra-rich and drive a Prius than look like just another wannabe in a Mercedes or BMW.

Not 100% sure, but it seems like diesel is much more eco-friendly/economical than a hybrid. From what I understand, hybrids do great around town and aren't much better on gas on the highway. Also, I've heard that hybrids have all sorts of unintended consequences like greater producation costs (in terms of pollutants) and long-term battery disposal issues. There's likely other typical lib issues, but who cares. I'll die before I buy a Prius, just on principle. The only global warming is in my pants.
I can't argue with you there, but how long will it take for someone to trick us all into the pending global cooling hysteria. It'll probably be some stem cell that tragically somehow slips through and becomes a Democrat senator or congressman. I'm this close to scrapping my order and buying a Hummer with my Halliburton stock.
We just dumped a van and replaced it with a Camry Hybrid. Regular gas, combined 38 mpg. Love it... As much as it hurts to say, it tempts me to also swap out the MCS. This whole debate has been covered to death in other threads, but I think there's a fortune to be made out there if some companies would set up reasonable van and truck rentals for short term jobs, vacations, etc. Fuel is wasted because so many people size their vehicles to meet their maximum space needs, not their usual space needs. Generally speaking that's not a problem with our MINI community.
As for your specs, dump the mats. Tell the Motoring Advisor that you want him/her to throw them in. I bought my '03 when many were paying over MSRP but still got them to throw the mats in. I told them it sealed the deal, and it did. Good luck with your new vehicle. You will love it.

You sure you will never want cruise control? I use it all the time..and if you want it added later it's expensive. Around here it's tough to sell a car without cruise.
