In my opinion, I feel that the mini brand will go the way of saturn. Way back in the day saturn had their own wave too, since they were a small people friendly company. Then they started to get more and more cars and suvs to their line up, which brought more customers, which brought more of their cars on the road.

I feel that our minis will repeat history. We started out with only one unique body style with 4 different trims. In the future we're getting the Clubman, an awd model (I'm not sure if that'll be the suv), and a 4 door "SUV" mini. I guess we should enjoy waving as long as we can, because it's going to die off once we get a bigger lineup, and minis will be a lot more common.

p.s. sorry for the poor grammar, I'm too lazy to run a spell/grammar check, because I'm eating a PB and J sandwhich. Which is amazing btw.

Actually, I don't really wave. I prefer doing the peace sign instead. Is that in the MINI handbook? I think I get more waves or nods of acknowledgement back from women than I do the guys, but it's almost 50/50. But, that's a bit misleading too. People tell me MINI is a girl's car, but I see it about 70%-30% for guys behind the wheel around here. What I love is to get to a parking lot around the same time as another MINI owner and then talk MINI with them up to the storefronts. Complete strangers with a common bond. That's cool, eh.

Frankly, the ol' "thumbs up" conveys my sentiments better than a wave, isn't confused with a simple greeting, and always seems to be appreciated by the other driver if they're looking.

It's a non-verbal "you've got one fine looking MINI!"

Heathens ... how dare they not recognize you? They should have their keys taken away and be relegated to driving Aztecs for the rest of their lives

How dare they not understand the inner code of the MINI circle Not only do they not understand the proper etiquette, but how dare they have their own lives and maybe not be thinking about a car? Heathens I say.

Well....relegated to driving Aztecs might be a bit harsh.

Harsh If they be heathens, and not true believers, then they deserve worse ... let their backseats be banished to Pontiac. Let their runflats be found only on Pintos. And, let their boots never sports racing stripes ... Aztecs are too kind, maybe pintos or corvairs would be better

I agree, it is sorta funny that we have a four-page thread on this. I'm proud.

Waves

Might as well chime in here. In the past few days I have seen a few more MINIs in and around the area. It might be that I have been out a bit earlier when folks are going to work, 7ish to 9ish. One early MINI, black with a for sale sign kinda gave me a wave as he drove up to Hwy 128, I think he may have been a little shocked to get a wave. A bit further on I went by a newer MINI 05/06 Royal Gray I think, oblivious or concentrating on what was happening at work. No wave, just a stare.

Later in the day, when I was catching a good lunch at Old Santa Fe Grill Mexican, I noticed a PW MINI full of folks heading to lunch. Sitting in the grill looking out thru the window, it was hard to wave.

As I was sitting looking out the window finishing up my Huevos Rancheros, I saw a nice Cabrio pull into the parking lot looking lost, driver was on the phone. A little later it drove off, so no wave opportunity. This gets better, later when I was getting some cash at the local bank, same Cabrio pulls out of the other Mexican restaurant, so he must have been looking for a lunch partner, they drove away with the top back and appeared to be having a great MINI experience. he turned right, I turned left so again no wave opportunity. How sad!

So, waves are a little sparse up my way. Early morning appears not to be a good time to wave. So I guess I will go back to my old pattern, wave and hope for a return or at least a happy .

UGH! (sigh) You're probably right. It will all be written up in the Darwin Awards after my demise during my low speed wave-by.
Actually I understand through her body language that I have passed her comfort level. I promise not to stalk her any more, or force her to look at me as I drive by waving maniaclly. No restraining order needed. Mwwhaaahaaahaaa.
As far as my car representing my personality, with blue being a 'bubbly color' well, I just dont know about that. It is a little more outgoing than the silver or greys, but I cant think of a time when anyone would have described me as bubbly. Quite the opposite is true. I have been told I am somewhat of a dark horse, and even flat out weird, but never bubbly. The last decals I had were not VW flowers, but Eric Cartman (from Southpark) blowing flames out his a$$, and the skull with missing teeth and crossed crutches from Jacka$$ (movie).
I just like the thought that MINI people are somewhat of a family (or NAMily), and to wave is to acknowlege that unspoken kinship. If DS woman doesnt want to be part of it, well thats OK too. I will continue to wave to HB and CR guys when I see them. Oh, and I will loose the wave to the dark and mysterious Mini-hound and give you the nod if I ever run across you in your DS and Black with tinted windows and red leather.

Corvettes seldom wave. I guess their too busy climbing the ladder to success or have a cell phone glued to their hand and ear.
I find just the opposite. I have had Corvettes and have a 06Zo6, and find all Corvette drivers here in AZ very willing to return a wave. When my Mini arrives, I don't ecpect to wave to others as I do in the Vette. Sorry

Wow that is a bit extreme, no one should ever be forced to drive an Aztec.....in fact no one should ever buy an Aztec.

I still don't understand how that meeting went when the engineers presented that car...... I would picture it like this:

Engineer: .....and so we introduce the Aztec
Executive: You have got to be F-in' joking right?
Engineer: No its for real we feel that.....
Executive: You are fired

Wave from CR Convertible!!!

I got my first wave today and was soooo excited!!!! I have only been driving for 4 days (just picked up on Monday after a 10 week wait) and have waved at 5 Mini drivers so far but none have waved back...i think atleast one person was ignoring me. So thanks to the man in the CR convertible with stripes who waved as he passed me getting onto the PA Turnpike at the Ft. Washington ramp around 8pm tonight . You made my night!!!

Im afraid things are much the same in the UK. We are trying very hard in Kent to keep the tradition going, but sometimes it feels a bit futile!

Here in Mass approx. 80% wave back - it definitely adds to the enjoyment of my commute and puts a smile on my face

I think motoring advisors should share this information with new owners!

MalteseFalcoln - MainLine since they only required a $500 deposit and was originally told the same thing from Otto's but when they faxed me the deposit slip they "somehow" wrote $1000 instead. And of course when I questioned them about it the MA said she never said that. Naturally that was enough for me to switch to the MainLine instead (pay attention to the signs early as I always say).

Alas, I saw no other Minis during my travels today....oh well, I'm sure to see some on my drive to AC tomorrow. I'm atleast guaranteed to see one - the swarovski crystal Mini at the borgata (going to take some pics before it leaves).
