Are MINIs shipped in Boxes?

On the boat, are they shipped in cargo containers or in a general hold?

I am starting to watch the seas around the atlantic, looking ok now, but might turn out later.

In case you haven't read it, this makes an interested read and tells what happens between the port and the truck to the dealer

The cars have a THICK waxy coating to protect the finish

Just wondering about salt damage and rough seas leading to other damage.

Also i would like to smooth ride seeing as the ship only does 12 knots or so, i would like it to get here as fast as it can. I am willing to row at this point.

Now dwjj has be freaked out that my mini will be damaged and i will never know about it, because some idiot decided to lower the truck and crush it.

YES NOW I AM PARANOID

Should I get out my evil grin?

Wow-you're really going to be wound up tight in a few weeks!

MANY here have been through the same thing. You can hassle me if I (finally) end up ordering

And just think...you'll get to spend WEEKS getting all of that "thick waxy coating" (cosmoline) off various parts of your MINI.

I'm still finding crap in the engine compartment, and I've had my MINI for 8 months!

According to some of my employees...MINIs are, in fact, shipped in boxes. Also according to said employees, they have a label on the boxes that reads, "HotWheels".

Tricolor incident. Sank with 2,871 BMWs, Volvos and Saabs onboard.

But at least the photos show the cars aren't all carried on the top deck.

If the average car was 50K (just for an estimate), 2871*50,000=143.55 Million, so at least 150-250M loss.

The method they used to chop the ship (and cargo) was amazing. A cable cuts through the works-the big ship engine, cars, like butta.

All Minis are carried below deck in layers, mechanically secured, with no exposure to the elements of the ocean. They have a wax coating that is removed at the VDC. These massive vehicle transport ships hold up to 4000 vehicles. Thats all the cargo they carry ___ cars, thats their specialty.

Yep, as others have said, they're shipped on "RoRo" freighters - similar to this:

Showing that photo to someone waiting for their MINI is WRONG! (And f'ing hilarious!)

The nasty stuff they use to protect the car is called Cosmoline. They also spray it between body panels to help prevent rust. On your first good hot summer, it will come oozing out of every opening in your bonnet and odds are that your rear window washer jet will still be clogged with the stuff.

The VPC (prep facility that receives the cars once they hit the ground in the US) uses a hot water wash to get most of the Cosmoline off of the car. It is collected and recycled.
