AC Question

Where is the internal temperature sensor located for cars with automatic climate control?

I have not found it yet, but I suspect it is in the open vent in the ceiling control panel.

It is definately not in theright place, if I know eher you are headed with this. I have to set my temperature to 64F in order to make it comfortable in the car. The sensor is definately getting hit with air from the A/C.

Yup. I've got mine set at 66 and it feels warmer in the car. Of course when it's 95 outside its comfortable but not cold.

Exactly.

I will find it and move it.

Right now, when the Sun is up I keep it at 64F. When the Sun goes down, I keep it at 68F. Neither is near the temperature it actually is in Romi though. The Wife unit would be blue if it was really that temperature.

The auto system works much less effective than the system in my Audi. I don't believe there is a sun sensor, so if the sun is on you, you really have to drop the temp. For me, 64 is comfortable, any other car I drive it's 70.

I guess it must be a State ( location) issue. Here in South Florida where the humidity is usually high, a temperature setting of 76-78f with the Auto A/C is more than enough to keep me comfortable. There is usually a puddle of water (condensate) under the car when I park.

No problems with my auto a/c here in Hotlanta. Even cools better than the '02 MC I traded in.

I dunt(tm) think anyone is having cooling issues. I think the problems is the temperature we set with the auto-A/C systme is unrealistically cold due to the sensor location for interior temperatures.

Romi keeps me comfortable, so far. However it is only in the mid-90's right now with high humidity. Next month with it gets in the lower 100's will be the tellling tale.

I have a feeling she will be struggling to keep me comfortable.

Skuzzy, I agree to some extent with you. The instructions in my book for A/c are confusing ,to say the least, especially when it pertains to the instructions that involve that front button that lights up (green dot- snow flake symbol) on your mid dash colum. really dont know what its function is .< but if i press it , sometimes i get warmer air that I asked for. I guess I will have to study the manual further .!!

Sombody get a thermometer and tape it to the center armrest with no cold air blowing right on it and post the results (I'll see if I have one when I get home). I set mine at 72 and it seems fine but it rarely gets above 80 here yet. We need a scientific study! The manual says if the snowflake (a longtime BMW feature) is ON then the air is filtered before it's warmed (in winter temps) or cooled. If you turn it off and it's cold out no filtering. But it has to be on to run the compressor/AC

I have a 4 probe thermocouple. I'll see what I can do about testing.
