It's not opinion, it's FACT!! That is, in both cases, being from Cali, and paying ANYTHING over msrp.

dont most dealers do a non refundable deposit?

I know mine does, and would not give me the price in writing with all the terms

only thing I worry about is the car comes in, they change the price on the final forms, and I'm out 1000 $ when I refuse it

The down payment on ANY CAR, in ANY STATE is refundable by LAW. No questions asked, no excuses.

And furthermore, I would NOT give ANYONE anything, besides a down payment on a $30k car, WITHOUT a written agreement!! Are you nuts???

What's unfair is the dealership trying to give me a "deal" on a demo 06 MC. They said they would take a whole $780 off the MSRP. It's a 2 year old car with 400 HARD miles on it. I laughed at him. I'll find a used one from a private owner that is willing to come to a fair price.

If it make you feel any better, I had a friend who paid $10,000 over MSRP when the 03 EVO came out.

When demand exceeds supply (or equals it) and the car company is meeting projected sales they aren't gonna cut the price. A friend got a big gashog Dodge truck (list 32k) for 24k. He got a fair tradein price. But they can't sell many of them even at that price, and they have to move them somewhere. Minis are a different animal. They don't make many, they can't sell many, they stick with the price. We all paid it didn't we? Dodge hog trucks will rust on the lot if they don't cut the prices.

Refuse

Personally I REFUSE to pay over MSRP. The problem with it is when the person that pays over MSRP goes to trade their car in (we all do at one time) and they see that the big markup was a waste...that's when people loose faith in the company they are dealing with.

I saw this so many times with Harleys when there was the list that everyone was on. I guy would come to trade his bike and take a beating because he paid way over sticker price.

When things are hot, I don't blame a dealer for selling at full pop retail, but with all the MINIs still on the lots it seems silly to pay way over sticker.

Kind of like the guys that waited in line for the iPhone...they are already talking about a markdown before the Christmas holiday...oops

my two cents

No, I didn't. I paid 5% under the MSRP. And MINI isn't making any more money on them with demand high. They only make money on volume, and since they have a set # they will sell in the US, itt makes no difference, they sell them to the dealers for the same price (an agreed % off of the MSRP). The DEALER is the one marking up the car with an inflated price, and the DEALER is the one stealing your money if you give it to them.
