R56 Markup.. is that fair?
I have an agreed price, of a pretty much loaded CooperS, at 5% off the sticker. Haven't given them the down pmnt yet. Just finalizing decision. But yes, they have agreed on the price. The sticker of everthing is 31.5, my price is 30. thats 5% off. By the way, I did NOT, and NEVER do negotiate with a car dealer. I walked in, handed them my spec sheet, and said "I will pay you xx for this car, take it or leave it". Thye ussualy come back with, well we will go for xx (+xx) for it. I repeat "I will give you XX for the car, and I will NOT sya it again."
The agreement is always next after the retarded "I hvave to talk to the mangr....", they disapear for 5 minutes, have a smoke our back, then come back in and say OK.
The entire car negotiating thing is just retarded.

I got 500$ off MSRP and free floor mats, and here is what I did:
I Emailed two dealers that were around 250 miles away from my area, and I stayed on that email that my local dealer was firm on the MSRP and they would not give me anything off, and if they made me a good offer I was willing to drive the 250 miles.
Only one of the Dealers responded saying that they would give me 500$ off the MSRP and free floor mats. I took that email to my local dealer and the y match the offer. Howver my local dealer has a 145$ admin fee. So I guess I got 355$ off plus the floor mats.
I'm still pretty happy with the Deal

Wow. Is that for buying one off the lot or special order one? Either way, you got a great deal, good job!
Congrats are in order...
Hey birdman, congrats are in order, I think you may win the prize for most off a special order 07! Nice job!
I hope they don't pull the "oh, 5% off sticker means 5% off MSRP plus the sticker I put on the window that says +1500!"
But I doubt that because you said they agreed to the price of 30K....
And I presume you aren't buying any dealer add ons or extended warranties either, those are nearly pure dealer markup. Sounds like you did get a screaming deal, congrats.
ps: Oh, and make sure you walk out with your produciton number in-hand! That is key.... If you don't, then he's going to give you one of his later allotments... That could be iffy depending on how many mini's he moves- time is probably not a concern but I'd nail down the details of the production order. My dealer pulled up one of his production allotments and modified it on the spot, so I walked out with a Production Number...

Bottom line, DON'T PAY ADM (Additional Dealer MArkup)!
I'm only posting this because it seems to have slipped through the cracks, but THERE ARE PLENTY OF MINI DEALERS IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA THAT SELL WITHOUT MARKUP. I was at Long Beach MINI a couple of weeks ago, and they had TONS of new 2007s and a surprising variety of 2006s as well on the lot. I was there with a firend who ordered a new 2007 MCS to his own specs, and he was given an estimated delivery date of mid-July - AT NO MARKUP.
There is no need to look outside the state, or even the LA area. The waiting lists are not long and there are lots of MINIs in stock. Last time I drove by South Bay MINI in Torrance, they had lots of MINIs on the lot, and they also NEVER CHARGE A MARKUP.
Sorry for "shouting" but foks who recommend going to an out-of-state dealer are not acknowledging that MINIs are available for MSRP right here, right now.
To the original poster: Check out the other MINI dealers in the LA area, they may have just the MINI you want on the lot right now. (And at MSRP)
If not, you can at least try to get the MINI you ordered for MSRP from Alexander, by pointing out that other MINI dealers in the area are NOT charging markups.
Good luck!

agree 100%
Dubaian... I agree 100% with undertow and ame0ba! They confirm in your area (like most on NAM) are reporting basically NO markup. (as mentioned earlier, my straw poll of pricing had it at MSRP +/- $350, not including birdman's -5% deal).
If you pay +$3,000, you are throwing away good money!

Weird interiors? Or weird exteriors ? And what colors just curious?
Oh I don't know, like Dark green, with black strips, and NO extra's on them. I guess no color is weird to many, as that is just personal preference. But they all had nothing in them, no nav, no cold weather (this is NY!!), no convienience.... so they just won't sell in NY. NY'ers want STUFF!!
Since most MINI dealers don't mark up the price of a MINI, no, a markup is not fair. I would tell the dealer that you have found a MINI at MSRP elsewhere, and you'd be glad to buy their for MSRP. Otherwise, why would you waste three thousand dollars??? MINI dealers make plenty of money on each car, and they have almost 100 percent profit on accessories. They also get rebates for meeting quotas. The more MINIs a dealer sells, the more money they make on each MINI.
Walk away from this deal if the dealer won't work with you!

For 3K, you can fly to England, visit the MINI plant and watch your car being built. DON'T pay more than MSRP. At MSRP, the dealer is still making a nice profit plus they figure if you buy the car from them, you are more likely to bring it back for servicing which is more money in their pockets.
The mark-up is fair if you've already agreed to it. What difference does cash make? I write out a check for every car I buy. They cash the check, they have cash.
There is no discount for buying a new car for cash...ever. As far as the mark-up goes, I'd tell them to pack it and buy it somewhere else.

Don't haggle; make an offer.
It pays to shop
I live in SoCal and found that I had to shop around to find a Mini dealer who is no longer charging a mark-up. As some of us may already know, the MSRP already has a mark-up built in. Assael BMW in Monrovia and South Bay BMW in Torrance are the two dealerships I found that no longer charge a $3000 mark-up.
The saleman at Assael told me that when the Mini first arrived they had people in long lines paying $10,000 over MSRP. A matter of opinion as to their sanity.
