Mini owner since 04---CR/white CVT "Babs" according to my wife.
36, 000 miles of happy motoring but CVT and non-S car was a compromise I accepted just to get a MINI into our mix. ( compromise is a bit unfair/selfish since I have a sports car with a 6 speed ) Always longed for more power though I knew a stick shift was not happening because my wife just does not enjoy it even though she can drive stick. She loves BABS...so we share her.

I had driven the R 53 Cooper S with auto when they became available but it did not knock my socks off enough to take the financial hit. This fall I did my usual test drive the new model visit to the dealer and was blown away by the new car with stick shift. A friend of mine was ordering one so I was obligated for the test drive to "help"

Told my MA to call me when he had an auto demo. Did that 2 weeks later and fell in love. Threw out a few test balloons to see if I had a shot..not
looking good...YOU ARE NOT SELLING MY CAR and how about that little hot rod you just bought--isn't that enough ? (Said Bab's Mom)

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago. We are coming home from dinner out with friends and I quietly ask--How about we get a new MINI? No respsonse.
The she goes--are you serious? I thought you loved this car. I do but I want more power and the seats in this car are killing my back. ( when we bought it I used it occasionally. Now I drive it to work alot and over distance it really is not comfy. If you think we can afford it---go ahead. And then she nicely asks---How long have you been waiting for the right moment to ask me about this? She is the best wife in the world in the except for the fact that she reads minds...LOL

Borrowed an auto S for a day and drove it doing my normal routine. Even drove to work on a day I was off to run the same route. IT WAS A DONE DEAL---way better car much better fit for me. She does admit the new car has some nice touches she prefers. Seat back release at top, better seats, better ride and the bluethooth so I won't drive into a tree yapping on the phone.

ORDER PLACED FOR WEEK #24 (MAYBE 23) .

MCS/A -- CR/WHITE TOP/MIRRORS (they will change out mirror caps)
Prem, sport w/ 17 inch web spokes, convenience, cold weather packages
Black lounge leather, cream colorline, wood dash, chrome line int and ext,
rear fogs-- aka/ BABS the Sequel.

Ps...my friend ordered his too. Same as mine except stick shift, LSD and dark silver w/ black top and mirrors. Anyone looking for a spotless O4 CVT , mine in perfect except for some minor stone chips in the nose.

Now the WAIT......

I did linger here alot when I got the first MINI but have wandered off. I am sure I will have some questions for those more experienced with the R56 variants. Big proponent of message boards and helping/learning from fellow enthusiasts. ( I recently gave my rattle fix to a guy on Rennlist and it actually worked. He was thrilled.)

Anyone else here go from Copper CVT to R56 Mcs/a? Curious to hear your reactions.

 

Ahhhhh,.....another one slips quietly into the time travel trap laid by those evil people at Mini! The car is not small, it only appears small due to how time slows when you are near it!!! The closer you get to having it, the longer it takes. The longer it takes, the more insane you go! And the more insane you go, the more you want it! THE VISCIOUS CIRCLE WHICH IS ORDERING A MINI WILL DRIVE YOU INSANE!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!

I survived the torture first time thru the MINI buying experience. Car was sitting in the showroom--put in on hold--brought my wife over to see it and
picked it up the next day. The last car I bought (this fall) was also on the lot. I am not very patient when it comes to cars. This will be AGONY TO THE THIRD POWER. Luckily MA is quoting 6-7 weeks.

 

And you believe the MA? Hehe,..this is going to be good.

Uhmmm,..Romi took 9 weeks from order to delivery (most folks think it took a lot longer due to my professional whining...but I did start whining about a month before I ordered her..), but she was special in that NFR had not started shipping yet, and the manual transmission MC had not started shipping either.

Personally, I found whining to be an excellent stress reliever. But then, I am also self-absorbed enough not to have realized if anyone was being irritated by it.

 

I was enjoying the anticipation.... now it is just getting old. I am ready for the car to show up.
It's been sitting on a dock in Southapmton since Moses was a corperal. How long will they let it sit there getting pooped on by seagulls that squak with a British accent? Man. Is Rain Man the shipping agent or what?

Hope the wait isn't overlong for you. The test drive on the R53 sold me, one stroll in the R56 and I was an addict.

Just talked to MA ON ANOTHER MATTER FOR A FRIEND.. Sat. they showed wk 24, now its wk 23 and scheduled for production so NO CHANGES.

Like Ferris Beuhler trying to roll back the odomoter on the California Spyder except I hope this works out a bit better.

 

Mine was sitting at the dock when the MAERSK WAVE docked, loaded up with MINIs, and left. It then had to wait a week for the ISOLDE to arrive.
