Opening Boot from Outside WITHOUT the fob

I've tried and tried to open the boot manually from the outside - without using the button on the fob (car running, unlocked, getting something from the boot) but it doesn't work. I can feel the 'rubbery' button, and it depresses slightly on the right or left side (not in the middle at all) but no luck. It won't open. I have to turn off the car, take out the fob and push the button.

Anyone else having this issue or have any ideas how it can be resolved?

Have you tried the lock release on the toggle switch? Hold it up and everything should unlock.

There is a delay on mine. I have to grip the handle and put pressure on the rubber button till I am sure it is depressed. Count to 3 mississippi, and it should click and open.

I had the same problem. I'm going in tomorrow to have the hatchback latch assembly replaced.

Mine came not functioning, and they were able to fix it without replacing it but after it went in for the software upgrade (a whole seperate fiasco) it came back with the hatch not functioning again. The only way I have been able to open the boot has been the button on the keyfob.

I also thought I just wasn't doing it right at first, but comparing the feel of the button to a correctly functioning one, the feel is much different. Mine is squishier, for lack of a better term. If you have comfort access, it should be a process of a short hold, then the latch releases. If the car is unlocked (double press of the fob) it should pop right open without a hold.

Good luck. Get it taken care of. The dealer owes you one that works right!

Even though you don't say so, I'm assuming you have convenience access. If not, then you can't do it without the key fob or using the button inside.

I used a loaner cooper for 10 days without the comfort access option, but it still had a button on the fob for the boot. It had 3: lock/unlock/boot release. Both the fob boot button and unlocking all the doors and then using the button on the hatch would open it for me on that one. It was definitely MORE convenience on that one, since the boot latch functioned correctly.

Here's hoping thtat they get your latch fixed properly. And that nothing else goes wrong with your car for the rest of its life.

There is a slight delay on mine, too. I think that was programmed in to compensate for those people who go around their cars when the park and yank on all the doors to make sure they are locked. On the doors, you can easily yank without accidentally hitting the button. But, on the hatch, you can't see the button and are more likely to accidentally hit it. I, however, am confident in the "clunk" of the locks and the light flash and am not paranoid enough to walk around the car, yanking on potential openings.

I read that the locks won't work if the fob is inside the car. You would need to bring the fob outside with you or hit the unlock button in the car or fob to unlock the trunk.

I have mine programmed so that all doors and the hatch unlock at the same time.
