That is one ugly front end!!! Very boxy and bland, no character. Lack of console/separation on center insturment cluster while creating the "open floor" look is ver reminicent of the 1970's American pick ups. I do like the exhaust through the body look, but I liked that since the 1965 Mustangs. Over all? I will reserve my judgment till the final product, but it doesn't look good for the home team.

Edit: That thing reminds me of what ever the new Range Rover is running around these days, except smaller. And the Range Rover reminds me of an ATM with wheels. So where do I slide my ATM card to make a withdrawal?

According the Automobile magazine the 07 MINI is going to be 2 inches longer than the current one The picture isn't the 07 MINi unless it's a wagon version.

I like the switches near the rear view mirror, and the rest of the inside is not too bad. As for the outside I agree with the Range Rover comment, and do not like it except the little intake on the front fender that looks great if it is brushed aluminum that is nice. I also hope they talk to some of the owners of those GMC suv's with the roof that retracts, from what I have heard those things are a total POS.

You should edit this post to clarify that this is a concept variation (on a non-finalized design), rather than saying "here's the next generation MINI."

As always, motoringfile.com has the real story.

I think it looks kinda cool, as it is not the successor to the Cooper, rather a possible new model alongside the MC/MCS.

And being a concept, it'll probably look way different if it makes it to production .

calm yourselves........

It makes me laugh that so many of you lash out at a change in the model lineup. You all bash SUVs and now MINI presents a good alternative to boring SUVs and Wagons and you act as if this is the only offering you will have for purchase in 2007? Come on, I gladly would purchase the MINI traveler that is born out of this concept and park it next to my JCW !

Isn't that like having a fat best friend to make yourself look even better looking?

Appearances aside (I'm reserving judgement for now), I like a number of things I see. The hinge feature on the doors is very interesting. Hopefully it isn't too costly to make its way to production. Also, the top opening in the back is quite cool. Hopefully it can remain open for hauling certain tall/odd shaped items.

The dash really is a lot cleaner, simpler and more reminiscent of a Classic.

The materials look like fantastic quality. Too bad they will almost undoubtedly get cheapened for production.

I personally don't see myself getting one of these any time soon, but I certainly hope they continue this trend of innovative functionality. As the product line expands, I think that could become part of an underlying statement that the MINI brand makes as part of its overall appeal - and fits nicely with its historical beginnings.

Oh Come On!!!!

Such drama!

First it's a concept car people!

Second, THIS ISN'T the 2007 MINI. This IS a CONCEPT of a PROPOSED 2008 extended wheelbase Clubman/Traveller. That means this car that you see in the pictures won't go into production. A similar design might, but this car WON'T go into production.

Things I don't like, those god-awful headlights and that humongoloid MINI badge on the rear doors.

Things I do like:
The interior; I think it's sharp looking. Not sure about the toggles on the roof, they might take a little getting used to.

The rear doors; Get rid of that huge badge and I think they look sharp.

The Clubman/Traveller badge... It's just cool...

If they're going to offer a wagon concept car, why not make it a four-door? I don't understand them keeping it a two-door!?

The bulging air vents on the edges of the dash look like they'd be dangerous projectiles in an accident! :impatient

This concept has lost the warm quirkiness of the current platform. It is too Teutonic-looking to me. Doesn't it resemble a little tank? I hope they soften it up quite a bit!

I hope the final version looks more like a MINI and less like a Scion! Those concept photos are just terrible. If I were looking for a small sporty sub-compact, there would be nothing about that thing that would attract me over the other options that are available. Especially, if I take into consideration that it will carry a premium price.

They could justify the premium price better by just upgrading the quality of the interior, adding some horses, and making the handling still better.

The 'cute' styling that has endeared the MINI to everyone is gone, gone, gone!

Ugh! Blah! Blech! (I don't much care for it.)

I agree that the headlights and front need some serious reconsidering... but everyone remember that this is supposed to be a 'clubman' version. The original clubman version met with quite a bit of discord if I remember my history correctly... then grew its own following. I think they should have updated the 'hotdog' grille rather than making it look a bit like a porsche cayenne. Also I question their ability to get in all of this new technology under the required price limit for the category. If this thing is over 40k they're gonna have a hell of a time selling them!

overall it is just a concept and bmw is not always as adventurous as...say...chrysler who takes models from concept to showroom with very little changes in a short time period. Overall if they can get a good, highly fuel efficient fun little vehicle with enough room for the average amount of cargo required they could have a hit. Also lets not forget that this would require perfection of the AWD system to make it truly viable for the snowbelt and small SUV crowd.

also, remember that there is no standing in the way of progress. I remember looking at a lot of cars that I think look great... but upon first view it look seriously fugly.

That part I don't buy at all. The car must definately does not need to have AWD to be successful as a small wagon/sport wagon. Volvo's V-40 and VW's Jetta and Passat Wagons sell quite well in their non-AWD forms. Same with the Audi A3 and A4 wagons I see running around...

The local Chrylser dealers have lots of AWD Pacificas in stock, but the vast majority of the Pacificas I actually see on the street are not in fact AWD versions...

AWD is not needed for this car to be successful. If the car can come in at or near the price of a comparably equipped Jetta wagon or even a PT Cruiser it'll be a winner... That is provided the design is cleaned up a bit compared to what we see here...

While this thing is rather odd looking I think it has potential to become something stylish. I do like the clean look of the interior. I could also get into the toggle switches above the rear-view mirror. Makes me feel like I am flying a bomber

As said before, this is a concept of a clubman version of the Mini. This model will be in addition to the MC/MCS/MCc/MCSc that are available now. Oooooh, maybe a two seater roadster version is also in the works........ (scratches chin) Hmmmmmmmmmm.

This may only be the Clubman concept but I bet the front end is pretty close to what will be on the coupe as well.

I am not too fond of the headlights or the front grille (though that is closer to the classic Mini than our cars)

I do like the 2 spoke wheel and the switches on the roof and the dash (though I am not horribly fond of the dash overall) it makes it seem like an airplane like you need to be flipping some things before starting out. It would be so beyond cool if they made one of them a start switch.

I have to say that the interior looks sleek.
can somone clarify this for me. Is this an optional model or is it supposed to be the next generation MCS?
