clubman refurb

Hi all,

I have a clubman non s 2011 (I think n18?)

what can be done to mod this to stage 1 (daily driver)?

I have seen a stage 1 at a whole 8hp with an ecu upgrade!!

I looked at the inducation kit type things - it may get rid of the airbox but ultimately still sucking in hot air, and if I duct the air through the foglight aperture I doubt the ECU would deal with the different flow levels and temps of incoming air...

Also, I have only seen upgraded exhausts with twin pipes - my valance is single pipe..and the twin pipe systems are £1000 haahah!!!

I am old school and to me that means cutting off the back box and chucking a cherry bomb or something on it - unless that affects emissions for the mot these days?

I am no stranger to modified cars but never looked at my clubman like this until I debated long and hard over the last month to keep it or part ex it. I am keeping it and have a budget of £1000 to spruce it up and give it a bit more presence.

I have 17" r98 alloys I am told - apparently they are split rim three piece? But they weigh an absolute ton - so many people buy wheels on looks but they should buy on weight..!! So I have no interest in the wheels - and they need a refurb quoted to me at £150 per wheel plus vat!!! - I have rattled canned the outside rim but that will only last for a year or so..) Living in wales, with the potholes - I have sliced two front tyres (minimally but still have to replaced for MOT if they spot it) already and plus the 20 mph and speed bumps low profile ain't worth it so thinking of going down to 15" with larger sidewalls for comfort tbh...

My plan is to use the money to tidy the car and get a seriously loud but mot safe exhaust that will annoy the welsh assembly in other ways they haven't legislated for...yet! Unless anyone has better ideas please?

Car is relatively decent with age related wear, brg (or some approximation of it), has...whichever is the best of chill/pepper pack, chrome lines, body coloured grill, black headlining, the headlight upgrade, double sunroof and a harmon kardon speaker system which is excellent and makes the back windows vibrate so its worth hanging onto for the min..

any ideas welcome - thanks a lot.
