Odd problem with brake lights
Hello,. I have a 2010 Clubman and for some reason ever since I had to replace my battery my lower brake lights won't work but the parking lights do and since it's a single filiment bulb I don't understand it. If I unplug the bulb I get the light out on the dash but when plugged it they don't work for anything but parking lights. The 3rd brake light is working fine though. If my head lights are on the parking light works and if I push the brake peddle it shuts off. Any thoughts?

What I meant was the two lights marked as 1 on that I just think of them as lower and the 3rd as upper. Sorry. But yeah my mini only has single filiment bulbs in it? When I take them out there doesn't look to be contacts for a 2nd filiment?

If your bulb holder looks like this and the bulb socket is marked P21W, then the bulb should indeed be single filament (P21W is a type of bulb).
The wiring diagram shows pin 1 of the connector to be the parking light signal and the brake signal is pin 6 (left tail light) or pin 5 (right tail light). All of the signals come from the footwell module, which controls lighting. My guess is that the footwell module feeds a lower voltage signal to pin 1 (for a dimmer light) and full voltage for the brakes, but doesn't run both simultaneously (pressing on the brakes cuts the signal to pin 1). Unfortunately this suggests a possible failure in your footwell module, which is expensive to replace. You need to have a dealer or shop diagnose it.

wires for rear lights are multiplexed, they do more than one task. i forget the combination, but the tail lights, reverse light, fog light, turn signal and brake lights are controlled by just three wires with two of those wires sharing duties. it took me quite a while to figure trailer wiring and it seemed that different years use different color wires
