R55 warning light

warning light

when starting, the light showing the car on a lift comes on and then Brake stays lit.any suggestions?Thanks Scott

This happen to me when I first got my car, Turned out to be my rear brakes that were worn out.

I highly suggest you get the owners manual out and read the section on warning lights. It could save your ****!

I had the same thing, now all's fine

On a long road trip about 2 weeks ago I hit a series of hard bumps and potholes which really bounced my 2010 MCS hard. After the last (and worst) bump my red "BRAKE" warning light came on in the speedometer. I checked many things, brake fluid, apparent wear on the pads, considered replacing speed sensors, etc. So, the cause ended up being the rear brake wear sensor, which was brand new and which I had tied off with wire ties when I replaced my rear pads a few months ago. The hard bumps had somehow set up enough momentum so somehow the sensor must have come loose or contacted the wheel or tire and it had been torn loose and disappeared. I had to use the turn signal stalk to reset the rear brake maintenance indicator in the computer. Needless to say, I actually installed the new sensor this time rather than tie it off. I thought I had secured it very well the previous time but it must have gradually slid rearward enough to contact something. Or, perhaps something I ran over (twig, who knows?) might have snagged the sensor wire and yanked it.

I had the same series of lights come on on my 2011 Clubman with +/- 26,000 on the odometer. Dealer told me I needed a complete "brake job", fortunately it was covered under the 36 month, 36,000 mile service package.

Yep, just means your brakes need to be replaced.
