little rubber button on door handle

I'm sure this is a basic question, but I'm a new 2009 Clubman owner, so I'm still learning. Love my clubman!! I'm discovering new things with my car all the time. What is the little rubber button on the door handles? It's probably so simply, but it's got me perplexed!

So happy to be part of the Mini Clubby family!

That is the CAS button. Let's you unlock and lock the car with the key in your pocket/purse/backpack. CAS also let's you start the car with the key in your pocket/purse/backpack

Thanks you guys!! I searched comfort access and learned all about it and of course went out immediately and had fun testing it! I appreciate your response and letting me know!

I bought this car sight unseen from a dealer and had it delivered to me, so I had zero introduction on the car whatsoever. It was the only one that I could find that had the options I wanted...beige leather interior, sunroof and a manual with low miles and in my price range. This little car is loaded with everything and I'm still learning all it does after having it for a month. I've been reading this site long before I bought her...so very helpful!

Thanks again!!

You have to be close with the key fob in your pocket.

You can start your MINI with the key in your pocket also. Pres the start / button with you foot on the brake. Or brake and clutch for manuals.

thanks

Yes! It's a very nice option! My daughter's new VW Beetle has the same thing, although not a button just a sensor in the handles, and have always loved that option. I'm spoiled now too!

The fun part is when someone gets out of the car and I close the doors and they look at me and say "uhhhh, your radio is still on." Click the button and off it goes..."you're just hearing things!"

I'm having tons of fun with my car...glad I went ahead with the purchase and glad I found this site!

Indeed great feature, I have it on our family Mercedes SUV. One word of caution however. The driver should always make sure they have the key fob in their possession. I had a funny situation happen once. Got in the car to take my wife to an appointment, thought I had the key with me but I didn't. The car started when I pressed the button simply because my wife had her key in her purse. I dropped the wife off without shutting the motor off and turned around to go home. On the way I stopped to get gas so I shutoff the motor. A fe minutes later I realized that I had no key, no way to start the car and was 40 miles away from home...

That's definitely good to know!! Thank you for that heads up and (teehee) laugh!

When my daughter got her new VW Beetle, with the comfort access, we tested out the feature where the car won't start without the key inside the vehicle, along with testing out all the other fun stuff the feature does. But, we never thought about what you experienced.

Luckily, for now, my daughters don't know how to drive a manual transmission and my Clubman is my fun car. So, Momma is the only one that drives her. I am determined to teach my girls how to drive the manual though!

Thanks again for the heads up!! Would never have thought of that being a possibility!
