Jack point

What is the best place to put a floor jack on an R55 to lift both wheels front and back to install jack stands?

I recommend under the car.

But seriously, I put a 2x4 between the wheels under the side skirt and jack towards the front so it picks up the car evenly.

A quick search would have turned up the appropriate thread instead of cluttering up the forums...

+1 This forum is at least 12 years old and I'm sure a little older so it is not unreasonable to believe that just about every issue that can arise from owning a MINI has already been dealt with - successfully or otherwise.

PS: Just flipped over to the home page and the statistics counter tells us that there have been just short of 3,765,000 posts to date. Somewhere therein lie the solutions to most of the world's problems.

Good question. Don't be made to feel ashamed for asking. It's a forum, not a private club.

I use a 4x4x1 piece of wood under the forward jacking point, and the floor jack lifts both wheels at once. The car's standard jack will lift both wheels from that point (or the rearmost) as well. Rigid little buggers are our MINIs.

Ahem.. the factory jack style is referred to as "the widow maker" in some circles..

Please use a proper rated hydro jack, Lift at the front lift point. Both wheels come off the ground (on the jacked side).

I place 1 stand under the framerail with a large block of wood to spread its weight out, I do the same under the rear lift point.

I've also made a custom jack adpater that fits into the lift cups. Like this -

BMW Jack Pad Adapter - Amazon.com BMW Jack Pad Adapter - Amazon.com

I made my own out composite decking free samples. Works great.

Yep. It should be referred to as an 'emergency jack' (like the 'emergency spare'). Not suitable for home use.

Some folks just can't help but be jerks, sorry about "cluttering up the forum".

Anyway I did make an adapter to fit the front jack cup and used my floor jack, worked great!
