R55 2008 Clubman S - DSC Control Unit Failure
2008 Clubman S - DSC Control Unit Failure
Well, my dash is lit up like a Christmas tree and I was told that it's due to a DSC control unit failure. Unfortunately, the cost of the part is around $1,200 and the dealership labor would be an additional $600-$700. I simply cannot afford it. A close friend of mine asked his brother to look into the possibility of finding one in a salvage yard, although it is my understanding that any replacement still needs to be installed and programmed at the dealership. The good news (I think?) is that he has found a couple of 2008 Clubmans at salvage yards and could get the part at a fraction of the cost.
My questions are:
Does anyone know what the exact part # is for this control unit, so that I can make sure my friend's brother is locating the correct one?
Are there any issues I should be aware of with getting a used DSC unit?
Do I really need to worry about replacing it right away, or is it non-essential to safe operation and braking?
Thank you SO MUCH to anyone who responds.

Do you have any print out or documentation of the faults or failure from the inspecting dealer?
Sounds like the Control Unit for the DSC took a dive, correct?
Correct, unless you have access to an approved MINI-protocol scanner and know the reprogramming steps, it is a dealership item.
Problem is, how reliable do you think those are?
The part number depends on your production date and vehicle trim.
As a reference, use RealOEM.com or PenskeParts.com to check and verify; also confirm what part number is on yours currently!
May not be able to be coded; no warranty (could be buying a $300+ paperweight), etc, etc, etc.
You will not have any Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) in terms of course correction.
You SHOULD check to see if you still have active ABS [which you should, as the ABS pump hasn't failed].
Have you called a local MINI independent shop for assistance?

If it is lit up like a christmas tree what other lights are on?
If "ONLY" the DSC is on then yes maybe a control unit.
If many other lights are on then it could be the DSC control unit is bad but more likely that your battery is going bad. Many lights on the dash that should not be on is a familiar indication of a bad battery.
