Barn Door Programing

Is there a way to program the barn doors to NOT open with the key fob. Quite a few times I have found the rear door open because the button was pushed in my pocket. Luckily I haven't had anything valuable in the car at the time. Funny thing is, I never seem to be able to push the unlock button, when it's in my pocket.

No way through normal means.
I have found my barn door open a time or 2. One time after being under my house in the crawl space. Once found it open upon returning to my car while shopping.
I have also found my windows rolled down and sunroof vented due to the fob being pressed while in my pocket.

One thing that may help is to put the fob alone in empty pocket and put change and other keys in a different pocket

Twice in a week I must have sat on my fob, because one of my coworkers would come in and tell me the boot was standing open. Luckily, my office is in a fairly remote area. On one occasion, had my iPad sitting in the car, and on the second, a laptop in the trunk. Hate to think what would happen if I'd popped the boot at the mall or something.

I’ve had the same issue of co-workers telling me the barn door was open. We park in the back of the building and there fortunately there isn’t any foot traffic. But, it happened often enough that I wear the key fob on my belt so I don’t accidentally hit the button.

Wear looser clothing? I unfortunately picture men in tight pants with a bulging fob with eh boot door button being pressed. I know not a great image... couldn't it have been a female with tight pants?

Thanks schatzy62, I can always count on you. Unfortunately, the seller isn't selling or processing orders until 1/31. I clicked on watch this item so I can grab it next month.

Are you all sure the doors open from an accidental push of the button? My clubman is an '09 so the barn door release is bit different from newer models, but I'm pretty sure this has never happened in three years. When we first got it, the barn doors opened on their own (I think) a few times but there was a problem with water seeping into the mechanism and once that was fixed/sealed, it stopped happening. Our new clubman should be here in a week or two and now I'm curious about the barn doors again.

I’m sure the issue I had was related to the button being pushed in my pocket (and not due to tight pants), very little rain in GA during the summer so it wasn’t a water seeping into the doors and it hasn’t happened since I started wearing the key on my belt.

There have been reports of barn doors or windows opening on their own on this board. All of the cases here have been an electronics gremlin that was fixed by a preprogramming at the dealership.

Most if not all did NOT need programing. There is a large problem with water getting into the door handles and connectors and shorting them out. Thus causing the door to open.

On the older models yes. Everythign I've read about newer models (late 09-ish) have been programming related. Having said that, checking for water intrusion to rule it out is never a bad idea.

I've had the same thing happen to me several times (most recently yesterday in the parking garage at work - sat like that all day). I can rule out water intrusion as it's happened in the garage during the months of drought we had over the summer.

Once it happened in the garage and went unnoticed and I opened the garage door with the barn door open against it... I've since ordered one of these and set it to tell me when I'm far enough in for the open barn door to clear the garage door.

Pretty sure it's the fob being depressed, though, and not an electronic/programming glitch... Like klricks I've also found my sunroof and windows open.

I definitely DO NOT wear tight pants, either, BTW.

Regardless, I'll ask the dealer to check for / apply any software updates when the car goes in for maintenance before long just to be sure.

Fotunately the range on the Mini fob is a great distance...Unfortunately the range on the Mini fob is a great distance as well...I have unlocked my doors and rolled my windows down several times, no water involved. If you carry the fob in your pocket and are fortunate enough to work or live within range of your Mini I would say there is a pretty good chance that you will do the same.

I am not suggesting that people have not had electrical problems, just saying there can be other issues as well.

Hi, just joined up..My wife has had a big problem with the barn doors on her clubman. A few time they came open while she was driving and then they would not open unless she used the key fob and then they just stopped opening. The dealer tells us that it is a known problem with clubbies and the door handles have to be replaced as the is a "short"!! Gets worse.. Her clubbie is less than three years old and the barn dorrs are having to be replaced due to the rust that was found when the handles were taken off!! Not a bit of rust but a lot!! And not for the first time! This is the third rear end rust problem we have found!!!How ever mine is one of the first clubbies ans i have had no problems other than a cat replacement!!

Guys, I have an 08 clubman and I can't open the barn doors with the remote? Is this only possible with comfort access?

No you should be able to open the barn doors with the button on the remote or by having all the doors unlocked.

Press the unlock button twice and the doors will unlock and you should be able to open them.

OR

Press the barn door button and the right side one should open up.

EDIT: comfort access will allow the key to be in your pocket and just pull on the door handle to open the barns doors.
