Headlight damage ... questions about repair

A few weeks ago my Clubman got damaged by someone in a small truck that double parked next to my car. They passenger in the truck must have opened their door and miscalculated the distance between cars and left me with what you see in the photos.

I was not around when it happened and I work and park in a pretty industrial area of NYC so really I am just surprised that something like this didn't happen earlier since my 3.5 years of ownership.

Now, this "hit" must have been pretty bad as the inner piece of the headlight literally separated from the bracket that's holding it in place. Not sure if it's obvious in the photos.

What I wanted to know is if the headlight assembly can be "opened up"? It seems there are some clips around the clear lens ...
Would want to try to open it and glue it back somehow if possible.

Does anyone have experience with this as I need to get this fixed asap. Right now I am one of those guys behind you with the misaligned light blinding you

Other option is going through insurance and getting it fixed along with the body damage on the hood. However I rather not go this route right now ...

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

entire damaged area

inner indicator/headlight is resting on the bottom plate ... typically they don't

the bracket on the left side of this photo ... blurred white piece ... is the broken culprit it seems ... I need to get to it

clips around headlight lens ... however seems lens is also glued

broken piece of headlight assembly that is connected to body

Just get yourself a good heat gone and a good prying tool. The headlight will come apart in a few minutes. Just be patient. Don't get overeager because you may warp the lens if you are too aggressive on a single area. Modify or fix whatever you want then use the heat gun again to re-place the lens onto the assembly. You will then need a high grade marine-type sealant to make sure the lens seals properly. Its not nearly as intimidating as it seems.

Call your insurance company, they'll pay to have it fixed!
