Body Style on insurance bugs me

My insurance company has the body style of my Clubman listed as a station wagon. This both amuses me and annoys me. Is this how everyone's insurance lists their Clubman's body style?

I will be happy if my insurance lists my Clubman as a station wagon. I imagine the premiums are lower that way.

Hard to say about premiums. For 6 months its more than I pay for my 2003 Vue with the same coverage. The Vue is 244.77. My 2010 Clubman S is 286.90. My husbands 2007 Ion was a ridiculous 300.72. We got rid of it and got him a pepper white/black roof Mini Cooper with a sun roof (not an S) and its 258.68. All have identical full coverage. Just think its weird that the manufacturer lists the body style as 3dr and insurance calls it a station wagon.

Just got our new insurance cards and info in the mail the other day. They have our Clubman S listed as a 4dr station wagon. And our premium is about $80 more than our 2003 Cooper S. The 4dr station wagon description just sounds odd.

Damn my young male self. Cant wait till i turn 25....

And yeah its not a Clubman, or even an R56, but i felt compelled.

I'm 23 and have an 07 MCS. I pay just over $400 for 6months of coverage (and its good coverage too. Not bottom of the barrel minimum coverage). I have rental insurance with this insurance company too and therfore get a multi-policy discount. If you need homowners insurance, rental insurance, ect, i would suggest changing all policys over to one insurance company. 99% of the time your total insurance cost will go down.

Just my $0.02. Happy Motoring everyone.

Yep. Mine's listed as a wagon and that's less expensive than the coupe.

I'm paying $1500 annually (PC Financial Insurance - in Toronto). I already had a policy with them on my previous car, and it just flipped over to the Clubman. I was paying $1200 for my 1999 Honda Civic. Only $300 more for the 2008 Clubman

When I call around to shop the policy, I get quotes of 2-3x that price. I don't know how insurance companies entice people to switch. It's insane. I'm very happy with my rates.

They can call it a chuck-wagon for all I care, so long as it's cheap to insure.

I pay $1300 a year for just the car, and that is with my home insurance tethered to get a discount.

I am happy it is a wagon. I like wagons and I'd rather have a sport wagon than an SUV any day.

My insurance is lower since it's not considered sporty. With good student and a 7 out of 9 on my financials, I'm paying around 800/yr to insure it with decent coverage.

$4K a year is a very high rate, even on lawn guyland!

My Clubman cost average, and I pay $1K / year for fairly extensive coverage.

On my NY registration, my Clubman is listed as a "suburban".

From the NYSDMV:

The term "suburban" is the term used in the NY Vehicle and Traffic Law to describe the body type of a vehicle that:
  • has windows on the side in the rear, and
  • has seats in the rear that can be folded or removed so the vehicle can carry cargo.
The law defines a suburban as a vehicle that can be used to carry passengers and cargo. Vehicles that can be registered with the suburban body type include station wagons, sport utility vehicles, hearses and ambulances. The body type code for a suburban that appears on registration documents and records is SUBN.

...sounds about right to me, although I can never find my car if it's parked next to a Suburban!
