R55 Do You Hear a Lot of Wind Noise From the Sunroof, When Closed?....
Just logged on and saw your question. Yes, my 08's sunroof has become very loud recently. This has just started as the temperature has dropped. I parked my Mini last winter and during summer months it is very quiet in the cab but as of this winter, it's as noisy as hell.
I have a JCW Clubman with a sunroof and the roof rails and mine has also been generating a lot of Wind noise recently. I'll have to check out the sunroof seal. Thought I saw a thread recently on here dicussing some windshields that weren't sealed properly on the top edge causing a lot of racket. Definately need to do something as I can barely hear that lovely JCW exhaust!
No noise. (18,000 miles)
Note for those with sticking/misalignment issues: WD40 every couple of months. Lack of enough lubrication contributes to both of those problems.

My 09 has sounded loud since the day I bought it. I finally brought it in to
the dealer. They pulled the sunroof panels out readjusted them etc. They could not get the noise to go away. They replaced the actual gasket on the roof body and now it's silent. They said the gasket was defective.

Because it changes the airflow dynamics of the whole roofline. It'll still push air around a closed sunroof.
Huh. My experience on another car has been the exact opposite. It significantly quieted things down.
Maybe it doesn't work on a Mini.

Was your sunroof leaking? How did they determine the gasket was defective?
No it wasn't leaking-just noisy. They tried adjusting it first-took it for a drive-no change. They changed the gaskets around the sunroof itself-no change. So that left the body gasket and that fixed it. The dealer did all the fixes and test in one shot. My SA did say he was surprised they had a gasket in stock. He didn't elaborate if this was a common thing though
Here's my sunroof saga. Clubman roof should be similar to my MC.After my sunroof was "fixed" for the stuck in hot weather issue, it was very noisy coming form the front edge when driving over 50mph. The noise went away when I slightly opened the sunroof or pushed foward on the sunroof or up on the rear portion (of course then i heard some noise from the rear edge). So after some obsessive tinkering, basically realigning the glass by looseing three torx screws along the rails each side and sliding the glass forward a little making sure it was flush with the roof as well as raising the rear edge about a couple mm above the roofline (otherwise on highway airflow becomes noisy), all is quiet.Another side note, after the hot weather "fix", my rear sunroof was really squeaky over bumps. I noticed that it was sitting too low on the rear edge. I mean why can't the techs put it back the way it was. The crimp marks from the torx screw should be a good guide. Well after some adjustment, it went away. Probably, the dealer could have eventually fixed the noise if they heard it and didn't pass it off as normal, but best to do somethings yourself.
I have an '09 MCS and really didn't notice any unusual wind noise until the temperature dropped about 4 months back. The dealer claimed to have readjusted the sunroof, but the noise remains. Unfortunately, the noise varies dramatically in intensity, from a roar to almost unnoticable all at the same range of vehicle speed. I always experience it in the morning driving through a small mountain pass which may be due to specific wind direction or lower temps or some combination of the two; most other times it seems more random. Because I can't easily demonstrate the problem at the dealer, they are unlikely to fix it unless the problem is widespread enough to result in a standard type of fix.
My 2009 JCW Clubman is loud as hell at highway speeds. I just figured it came that way on all of them. I'llbe curious to see if there is a fix from the service dept. I'll bring it up when I take mine in for next service.
I agree, you shouldn't have any wind noise if your sunroof were sealed properly. Has MINI started a recall for this?
Sunroof Noise Fixed!

I had the same thing done last week. I wouldn't say the wind noise is gone, but it is much less.
Mine is really noisy now that the dealer fixed the sticking sunroof. Time to call the dealer again since it is under warranty. I don't really want to make the 200 mile round trip but if that is what it takes then I will.
Old thread, I know, but very helpful. My '09 R55 has what I consider excessive wind noise from either the top of the windshield or the front of the sunroof (closed). No water leaks into the interior, just lots of noise at any speed above 50 mph. I mentioned it to the SA when I had the car in for the recall, but he said the only problems he had seen came from replaced windshields not sealing well.
Based on what I've read here, it's an issue I'll pursue with the dealer before my warranty expires!
