I am brand new to this forum with issue that I've yet to see here. I have a 2008 Clubman that I like very much. Just the other day the driver's side black jack scuttle disappeared! I am assuming that it fell off as the same thing happened the day I drove it home new from the dealer a year ago with one exception. On the first occassion, the scuttle on the passenger side fell off. All original scuttles and the replacement were installed at the dealer. I've got a replacement scuttle on order, but I'm wondering if anyone has any insight.

I lost one also and I agree with the dab of silicon between the "hook" of the insert and the backing plate. No further problems with mine on pair number 2. As ricbow said it is on the back where it is never seen.

 

Thanks for the silicon tip. By silicon do you mean regular silicone adhesive caulk or something else. Since the replacement will be attached at the dealer should I bring a tube with me or are they supposed to know these things and have this stuff themselves?
I hate to think of a scuttle flying off my car at highway speeds and becoming a potentially lethal missile (twice!)
