Greetings all,

We are getting ready to order a Horizon Blue Clubman (non-S) and I have a question - the roof rails - I can't seem to find them on the website configurator.

This is going to be our "fun" car - can't wait to join the ranks!!

Thanks in advance.

Is Steve your MA? I purchased my MINI (3rd) from him and my first MINI directly from Young.
Thanks, Mike! No, our MA this time around was Daniel, although Young was involved too (I think Daniel is relatively new). We bought our 2007 from Roddy, who, although he is now on the BMW side of the house, also helped us out a bit this go round.

I'm excited about the Astro Black. It's a really interesting color and obviously quite a switch from our current Mellow Yellow/black MINI. I am looking forward to the addition of the silver sport stripes on the front and rear, which I think will help break up the "hearse effect" of having a black Clubman with a black roof.

Hello ScottMac,

Don't ask me why, but the roof rails ($250) are the last item under "Handling" in step 3. They were a must-have option for us as we have several Yakima roof racks and a full complement of bike and kayak accessories and wanted them to be interchangeable between our BMW wagon and the new MINI.

If this will be your first MINI, you're in for a blast. Once you start motoring, don't forget to wave at the rest of us!

Jay

One of them is that you have it now. You'll need to keep the dark color clean, so tune into the Prima products on the detailing forums. I keep my Hot Chocolate clean with lots of spray washing, & Hydro, & Slick and the like. But dark and clean looks great.
Do you know the joke from Father Ted (TV series) about the priests' socks that weren't actually black, as they were supposed to be, but very very very very very dark blue. Just like you car!
Hi TorchMINI,

As you can imagine, it will be something of an adjustment going from keeping a Mellow Yellow MINI clean to doing the same for an Astro Black one. It's further complicated by the fact that we live in the city and have to park on the street. Fortunately, this is not our first black car and definitely not our first dark one. Thanks for the tips!

Jay

Dogstruck,

Thanks for the info. I could have sworn I looked at every conceivable option twice!

We, too, have Yakima racks for our kayak - is there a published weight limitation on those rails? Our yak is 63 lbs. - and a hair longer than the Clubman! I am wondering if it would be feasible to carry it on the Clubbie?

Eventually, we will change out our truck and Airstream for a small motorhome with plans to tow the Mini behind. It would be nice if the yak could be carried on the Mini.

According to the technical data section of the owner's manual for our Clubman, the approved roof load capacity is 165 pounds.

Check out my photos, if you haven't already... I have the factory installed roof rails and got the MINI cross bars... I have more info on my Flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/otra/se...7609631424061/

By the way, I think Horizon Blue looks fantastic!

P.S. I hope you will post on the Horizon Blue thread when you take delivery and don't forget to add yours to the Clubman pool on Flickr noted in my signature line.
