Anyone put a swaybar on a Clubman?

After taking off the stock 15's and putting on some 17's to my Just-A-Clubman I noticed with the wider tires it feels not as tight in turning and a lot of body roll.

Can anyone who has put an aftermarket Swaybar on a Clubbie give some insight as to it's worthiness?

I've heard from non-Clubman drivers that the Swaybar is the first or second mod you should do. But I haven't heard from any Clubbie owners.

I just put on some Koni FSD's and they're definitely an improvement. Not much - but definitely better than stock.

not a clubby, but...

A 18.5 mm JCW rear sway bar will help a lot, and they're not too pricey, less than $100 parts plus about 1.5 hours to install. I did this to my 09 MCSa with the standard suspension, and there's a lot less body roll than before.

We put a H-Sport 19mm sway bar on ours and there is less body roll.

I've got an Alta 19mm on mine, and while it wasn't the most fun install (gotta unbolt the whole subframe, etc), but it was a worthy investment. Definitely a large improvement.

i got 22mm NM engineering, worth every penny, mine is just a clubman too =D, i chose 22mm over 19mm because the differences between stock(17mm) and 19mm may not be very noticeable.

I put an H-Sport on mine - by the way, the same bar fits 1st and 2nd gen cars, and coupes, convertibles and Clubbies.....

I wasn't just looking for less roll, I run mine on the local 2.5 mile roadcourse (Heartland Park, Topeka) occasionally, and coming out of the low speed corners it wants to pick up that inside front wheel and smoke the tire. A good properly set rear bar tames this completely......

I put my 22mm bar on with the Alta end links set to medium stiffness. The rear holds well now. I'm going to have a shop near me install the front 27mm bar though, I've heard it's without-a-doubt the worst job ever.

H-Sport

Way installed a H-Sport 19" Rear Swaybar for me a couple of months ago and it made a really big difference. Like you I also replaced the tires (from 16 runflats to 17 215/45/17's) and although the handling doesnt seem as flat as before, its only slighly so with the swaybar. To clarify, I got the swaybar and then the non run flats.

Bottom line, go ahead and get a swaybar, you wont regret it!

Good luck.

Yes - huge difference! I put an H-Sport 19mm on mine, on the middle setting; you WILL feel the difference. This is, in my opinion, a must-do on MINIs.

I know I am OT but I have to ask. Are you satisfied with the Koni FSD? I am thinking about them myself. Maybe the FSD shocks and the Alta 19 Swaybar?

Love them -- they are a vast improvement over stock in both comfort and handling. No joke! You'll be very happy and will see a great improvement with the mods you're considering.

The only problem I've had with the FSDs is that I experience a weird clunking sound from the font sometimes, but this is probably due to a bad installation since I haven't heard of that from other users.

Does anyone know the diameter of the stock rear bar with "sports suspension"? Mine has the "standard suspension" and it measures 17mm.

@ Big Jim I think it is 18mm, also anyone that has done the Alta endlinks with the 22mm bar any pics or suggestions for the install? Also for everyday driving which is the best setting 1,2,or 3 on the bar?

According to Realoem, just-a-Clubman rear sway is 16 standard, 17 sport.

I too have an H-Sport in the middle position. I moved it from my R52 to the R56, and to the R55.

The mcs sport suspension rear bar on the hardtop is 18mm, I measured mine. I'm nor sure if the Clubby is the same.

We put on the H-sport sway bar, the price was less then JCW. It did help with body roll. We set it in the middle position also.
