Door sill peeling

I noticed a problem on our new Clubman the other day. The silver metal "Mini S" sill plates are popping up. It appears the adhesive is failing. Anyone else see this occuring? I could fix it myself but I think we're contact the dealer just the same.

Hum...we have not experienced this yet...fingers crossed that we don't - however - I think that a dealer visit is definitely in order to have it on "record" so it can be fixed under warranty.

If you're not far from your dealership, I'd go in and have them fix it. I need to do the same. The passenger side sill is coming up.

I have the same problem on the drivers side. Swiss Miss goes in for ohter work on Monday and i will insist that they fix both sides as this should not be happening. Also i do not want another Drive (1-1/2 hours) to the dealer just for something simple like this.

I have the same problem on the passenger side. Maybe they were afraid to use a strong adhesive for some unknown reason.

It's a common problem not only on the Clubman but also on the R56 hardtop - have your dealer swap out the doorplates.

Hey that is what the warranty is for!!! Of course if your dealer is 3 hours away you would be wasting your whole day for something that could be easily fixed in 1 hour if you are not afraid to get your hand a little dirty and maybe a little sticky

Same problem. Passenger side sill plate. I caught mine too late as the kids shut the door on it and smashed the sill plate. There was no damage to the door though.

Wow, hard to believe they are peeling like that. I kneeled on the passenger side in my car while wiring my radar detector. I didn't notice until later that they are paper thin and had dents in it. I bought a replacement and installed it myself.

The old glue/adhesive was a major PIA to get off. It was the stickiest tape I've come across. I'm surprised to hear they are peeling.

My driver's side has been popping up for some time now. I also noticed a slight bend in the metal where it had popped up too. Will get it replaced when I get the first oil change.

Will be getting new door sills covered under warranty next week but I did speak to a BMW mechanic friend and he said all auto manufacturers are having problems with the new "Envirofriendly" adhesives holding up on items like this.

I purposely pulled mine off to install the illuminated door sills (which BTW look incredible and are much thicker and more sturdy than the thin alluminum ones that come standard. ) After basically peeling the old ones off which was pretty easy as mentioned here, I saturated the adhesive with Goo Gone, let it set for 15 minutes and it came right up with the aid of a razor blade. I then cleaned the area with alcohol to put the new illuminated ones in place.

We had the same problem. Passenger side metal plate sill was lifting up from the front edge towards the back. By the time we noticed the problem, the sill was mangled and totally smashed.

Took it back to the dealer on Sat morning and to my surprise, they had both driver's and passenger side Clubman S door sill replacements in stock. Done under warranty and both replaced (Driver's side was heading the same way as the pass side sill). It took 2 hours to get the old sills removed, glue residue removed, prep area, add new glue, install new sills.

They look better than the ones put at the factory. I left the blue film plastic protectors in them.

This was a minor but very disappointing cosmetic problem on a nearly $30K premium automobile. Out of the 4 MINIs we have owned in the past 7 years, this has been the only one that has had both door sills come off unglued and replaced. Another sign that MINI has gone cheap with the build quality of the second generation MINIs.

These sills have updated part numbers and therefore they are supposed to have stronger glue bond and more resistant to water and dirt. I'll be happy to post the part numbers for both driver and pass side door sills on the Clubman S model for future reference.

Mine came completly off 3 weeks ago. I went to the dealer that day, it has been on back order since that day. If you can fix it yourself, do it. It seems like it will be a while until I get it.

Good luck

Almost 5 years later and MINI still has not fixed the problem!!!!!
I noticed the other day the door sills on both sides of my 2013 Clubman S at only 8 months old have begun to lift and peel. I'm going to have them replaced on my next oil change. MINIs really are not built to last

I had the same issue as well, the passenger side. Dealer fixed it, haven't had a problem since.
