R55 Luggage tie down hooks
Luggage tie down hooks
hey all
wondering if anyone knows - the 4 x tie down points (2 on either side) in the rear luggage area.. how sturdy are they? does anyone know how they're fixed to the car and how much strain they would actually be able to hold?
i'm trying down my guitar amp which is very heavy, in order to stop it sliding around - and i'm using a ratchet strap between two of the tie points. As you'd all know, you can get a heap of tension using a ratchet strap (which is just what i want, as a normal hand pull strap wasn't giving me enough tension)... but i'm scared i may be putting TOO much on those points.
Appreciate thoughts. ;-)

The hooks you are talking about are fairly heavy duty. They are metal loops held in place by a heavy metal plate and a rather large screw that is bolted directly to the body of the car.
I would not put 400 lbs of pressure on it but using a ratchet strap to hold down your amp should not be putting undo pressure on the hooks. They are made for that kind of use.
If you pop the little plastic cover off you can see exactly how they are mounted.
