Mine figured to be $250 LESS as a 2009. Since the MFSW is included in a package and the DSC is now standars equipment.

I was playing with the configurator during lunch. The Sport pkg description mentioned that the Dynamic Traction Control part of the package would not be available until December, with a link to "update pkg" - clicking that added the Sport package and $10,000 to the total. Wheee. By the time I was leaving work for home, I could no longer select the Sport pkg at all.

auto dimming rear view

why do you think the auto-dim mirror is a stupid invention? i had one in another car and it worked to cut all the bright glare from behind at night. The option is pricey for what it does, but if it were free, i'd say it was a great invention. am i missing something?

Because it makes using the mirror at night like looking through purple jello glasses.

On cars that had an option to turn it off, I always turned it off. I don't think ever in my driving life, have I had someone with their brights on right on my bumper and had to move the mirror.

I don't understand it, it makes the whole view way too dark.

Sorry Wampa, but the dimming mirror is one of the main reasons I opted for the Convenience Package. I can't stand a car without it. I hate having to flip the tab on the bottom of the standard mirror only after I've been blinded by the headlights of the Escalade behind me. I've had it on all of my new cars so far. And I don't find that it makes the view behind too dark at all.

I was also surprised how many cars on my dealer's lot came without the package. I really like the keyless entry and ignition, the auto wipers and headlights, the USB/Ipod, and the armrest (which I bought a phone cradle for). I guess, to each his own!

Oh no question, the convenience was one package I would not drop for ANY circumstances. But that begs a question, because I didn't even know the mirror was in that package: Shouldn't at this point that be standard equip? I don't think I've had but one car without it. I will say that the mirror is much more useful now that everyone has xenons.

I have a dimming mirror on my current car, and have no complaints. To me it is immensely convenient. Especially in TX, which is the land of the truck/suv. Their headlights, even on low, are blinding.

I never noticed much of a problem with the vision out the back. Yes, it is darker, but to me that is less disconcerting than the flip up double vision I always got with a standard mirror.

I like mine. They have to wire the RVM so it's gotta cost more. The rainsensing wipers are a treat. Set it and forget it, like the lights. We're a spoiled bunch we Mini owners.

That reminds me of a Rodney Dangerfield routine:

His wife told him their kids were spoiled.
He said, no, all kids smell that way.

According to my dealership, when MINI says 2009, they mean 2009, as in you don't get the car until 2009. The fact that they are bringing this out now can only mean that production slots for the rest of 2008 are mostly gone.

When I ordered mine on June 7th, I got one of the last of 2 available July build dates in the Houston area. After that the next build dates were in early August. Anyone who ordered after me in early June would be expecting builds in August and delivery in September/October. That's 3-4 months!

If you now imagine someone walking up to order in late July,
Their build dates could be as late as October with delivery in Nov/Dec.

They're gone, which is quite amazing.

David

totally worthless option, imo. I've had cars with auto-dimming mirros - like my wife's A3 has them right now - and I always have to flip that switch when I turn on the car at night. Why anyone would ever want a mirror dimmed is beyond me. Bright lights..blah, blah...other cars are never that bad. Seeing all the cars behind you like dimly lit candles and a muted view of the world = hell on earth.

I wanted comfort access, bluetooth and the multifunction wheel, armrest for $1250. Sadly they swapped the package so now we must get the cheesey stuff (mirrors, lights, wipers) to get the real goods - comfort access, bluetooth, wheel.

I wonder if there is an age correlation with dimming mirror acceptance? I've never had one, but I am hella bothered <sorry> by bright lights at night.

All these things are so personal - in tastes and pocketbooks. I reach up and flip the mirror at night...

Now if we could each have our own Rexicon-like packages...I'd choose MFSW, xenons & Bluetooth/iPod for a discount.

Yeah, we all like our own Clubman Option choices and think YOUR choices stink. Still, everyone is polite about it.

As for the auto adjusting mirror, for example, if you're not doing a great deal of night driving, it's not worth it. Yet, if you are...

Perhaps there's an age connection? I'm 34, drive often at night and never felt the lights of any car/truck/suv with halogens or xenons are too bright.

Maybe older drivers are more bothered by bright lights?

Nope - I am in the same age bracket as you (37) and I often find it necessary to flip the mirror on a manual car at night, or not worry about it with a dimmer. Been that way most of my life, especially in cars. In my truck I generally don't have as much of a problem, but that is partly because it is higher.

Actually, it's more of a genetic thing. Rhodopsin is the chemical in the eye that allows night-vision, and is extremely sensitive to light. The levels of Rhodopsin vary from person to person - producing various levels of biological "night vision".

For example, I have VERY good night vision. Once my eyes adjust, I can see in the dark almost as well as I can see in the daytime. The trade off is that I MUST wear sunglasses when I go outside on a sunny day. If I do not, I sneeze over and over as a result (the body's reaction to the sun - you can't keep your eyes open when you sneeze so the eyes are shielded) Funny - my Grandmother always thought I was "allergic" to the sun because of this.

So, drivers like myself have eyes that quickly adjust to the dark. Any type of overly bright light can cause driving problems at night, especially from the rear view mirror.

Others, with typical night vision, a light in the mirror isn't a problem.

Anyone care to guess what option is included on my Clubman S that's in Assembly status as we speak?

Dang it! I KNEW I should have waited and ordered a 2009!

By the way, my Clubman is now "Production complete and waiting for release to the carrier"!!! I hope it makes it on the Don Juan headed for New York on 7/31!
