30 mpg again.
The thing that bites is that there's no 91 octane in north Texas.
The super majority of stations have 87,89,93.

It seems like a lot of gas stations in my area that used to have 93 now have 91 instead. You can tell because they just slapped one sticker over the other, and you can still see the "93" underneath. They probably did that to compensate for the higher gas prices.

[quote=PWClubman;2313806]Yikes - I didn't know a MINI could go only 65 on the highway! That might be why my numbers are a tad low.

Oops - don't let out TOO much information - Big Brother will be watching for you on the hwy

I can never find 91 octane. I also find it funny that the only reason European cars are Supreme Gas only in the US is because 91 is their bottom and they have 91, 93, and 95. So in reality, our MINIs use the cheap stuff, just not in the US where the cheap stuff is apparently rat poison and will clog your engine.

I've found that 55 mph feels like a paralyzing crawl....also, it IS very difficult to keep it under 70 on the highway, though, in my Club S I seem to still get about 34 / 35 mpg on average at about 75 mph. Only have 1500 miles on it so far though, so I'd expect it to increase every so slightly in the next tank or two.

I too have the soot on the tailpipes. It is somewhat disconcerting but I can live with it, every car has it....

Ever look at the sides of tractor trailers? Right behind the smokestack exhaust....Uuuuuugly

I picked up my Clubman S yesterday and didn't have any soot until I filled up again today with Texaco 93 octane... is slight, but still present.

I'll contact the dealer once I get home to see what brand/octane the initially filled up with.

Gas Stations

I WISH we had a texaco up here in b-lo

Best I can find in the area is Kwik Fill, which is all north american gas to my understanding and contains no ethanol. Recently on a trip to DC from buffalo, taking the 219 I clocked 34.6 mpg (hand calc, avg speed 59 mph 418 miles, 12.1 gallons, while getting to the "end" of the break in period on the engine) using 93 octane kwik fill fuel. Lots of hills on the way down, rather spirited driving.

On the way back, filled up with sunoco 93 octane (10% ethanol at sunoco btw) and only managed like 398 miles over 12.7 gallons for a whopping 31.3 mpg. Drive back home was much less spirited, as there was fog for a good deal of the way. avg speed was in the 50-52 mph range.

3.3 mpg difference between the two. Interestingly enough, kwik fill was cheaper than sunoco too! (though the sunoco was only a few cents more, it was also in the DC metro area).

I asked my MA when I took delivery, and he wasn't sure, but he said that he thought they put 89 octane in mine for its first tank.

My MCCS (manual) is getting 32.4 mpg, 50/50 highway.city. I have a thousand miles on it now, so hope to improve a little but still very satisfied since I don't "baby" it.

great mpg

Going from the country over a mountain down into the city and back every day, about 48 miles round trip, I've gotten about 38 mpg using Shell premium in my 08 Clubman. Rock on! BTW that's about 7 mpg more than on BP. This is calculated by hand, and is about 1.5 mpg less than the computer.

Then you're lucky. My Passat started out with almost a 2 MPG error. By the time I sold it it was always 1.5-1.6 MPG optimistic. The Clubman appears to be 2.2-2.6 MPG off (to the high side) so far.

European numbers ARE NOT EQUIVALENT to US numbers. They use a different calculation method, as does Japan (and other places).

I've been using Fuelly to track our RV and my automatic Justa Clubman. It would be fun to see more there to get a representative group average (Clubman, Clubman S).

My best tank so far in the 1800 miles I've had the car was on the road trip home from LV - most of that was done at 80 MPH. Now I'm in mixed driving at home where the speed limits are much lower. My MPGs are nothing to write home about and in fact somewhat disappointing (my Mazda3 got 24 MPG). The Clubman however, still makes me smile every single day.
