So if you are keeping score at home: Minivan MPG x 2 = Mini Clubman S MPG

And if you pull the 2nd and 3rd row seats out of the van, you have a car carrier for the MINI.
My Silverado gets about 13 MPG. So, Chevy Silverado MPG x 3 = MINI Clubman

The 2010 Toyota Prius is reportedly going to have a solar array on the roof to power the A/C, etc., due out in 2009. Given the size of the Clubman roof....there may be some future opportunities!

Very smart - hope it happens and that all car manufacturers will get with the program sooner than later. It appears that this may still be an unconfirmed report from the various news media's reports: http://news.google.com/news?client=s...num=4&ct=title but it sounds great.

Wow, I'm really saw a difference in gas mileage after crossing over 4000 miles. My last tank, a load of Get Go premium ethanol gas, delivered just over 38mpg in combination in city and highway driving. Previously my best tank delivered 36.5 on nearly all highway driving. No complaints here....

Just passed 1150 today in my clubman S auto.

With a combo of maybe 75 city/25 highway, and doing things like turning it off at traffic lights, and flooring it when the mood strikes ( ), my computer says I'm averaging 30mpg.

So i'm assuming that means about 28.5 real world, but since everyone has the same computer, i'll go with that number.

Me too - 4400 miles this week and I went from about 425 miles max distance per tank to close to 475...I first thought that my gas tank indicator was malfunctioning, but I am just getting extremely better mpg than previously experienced.

I was sad I was tacking on the extra miles pretty fast, but this is a nice bonus!

I am 90% hwy...

I still like setting the cruise control on 60 or so and seeing how long I can leave it on as I get into heavy traffic.

Impressive Mileage 37.5mpg average

http://picasaweb.google.com/sasgetty...43644249168978

I'm breaking my car in, so far 400 miles. I drove from West Hollywood to Santa Barbara, CA and back, the MINI returned an average of 37.5mpg, super impressive, especially considering that my last car got 7.8mpg.

MINI Cooper S Clubman, 91 Octane, 60/40 Highway/Canyons (Stop and go on the highway also)...

I think, had it been a longer trip i would have gotten 40mpg average on the highway.

That's impressive - from the looks of it your highway driving was as you said predominate and probably fairly fast? Great mpgs!

My own experiences are much less highway and more "local" - I drive a MCCa and am finding that I average about 34-35 mpgs (via OBC)...with my average mph being around 30. My Clubman non S auto, definitely does better with more highway driving, that's for sure. I currently have 2,660 miles on my 4/28/08 MCCa.

What did you used to drive? A Ferarri? BTW, you can't trust the OBC.

Most people seem to find the OBC to be a couple of mpgs over what they calculate by hand. I will also add that it's often more useful to go by your mpgs for a whole tank of gas...though I suppose an extended period of driving would be OK.

Some are more, shall we say "attentive" and prefer to calculate by hand...while others do a bit of each and then just leave it up to the OBC to notice if there are any negative changes.

If you really want to analyze things there's a fellow who was quite prolific for a while on MINI2 who really kept incredible track of his mph and mpgs by the name of Dr. J http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-club...orld-mpgs.html.

P.S. My former MINIs - both CVTs without an OBC (they were 1st Generation MINIs) averaged at 34 mpgs - that is calculated the old fashioned way. We must all remember that mgs are extremely dependent upon driving style, as well as speed.

My Clubbie S has been less than steller for mileage, but has gotten somewhat better through break in. Just got back from a 1500 mile trip, and its been going up (have only about 2000 miles on odo), but still nothing like the numbers you guys are quoting...

Tank 1 - 187 miles - 20mpg - all city
Tank 2 - 268 miles - 26mpg - 50% city
Tank 3 - 296 miles - 29.5mpg - 100% highway (exxon 93)
Tank 4 - 304 miles - 31.9mpg - 95% highway (walmart 93)
Tank 5 - 291 miles - 33.2mpg - 90% highway (BP 93)
Tank 6 - 390 miles - 33.4mpg - 100% highway (exxon 93)
Tank 7 - 395 miles - 32.5mpg - 100% highway (marathon 92)
Tank 8 - 117 miles - 31.8mpg - 100% highway (shell 93)

These are hand calcs, not the OBC. Somewhat similar to the EPA estimates, but I was still hoping they would be a bit better. On my current tank, I'm driving it in the City with spirited driving. We will see if it beats the 23ish mpg earlier in the break-in for City.

these are kind of hard to believe ... the Clubman has a 14.1 gallon tank ... most of those figures don't add up.

even at 20mpgs you should get about 280 miles a tank NOT 187

I hate to ask but I'll give it a try. Can anybody comment on the differnce in mileage between a stick non-s and the s? I've read all the posts I can find. I'm test driving both this week. I drive like 35000 miles a year, mostly highway. If there isn't a signifcant difference in mileage then the S is a no brainer. I enjoy performance and have driven turbo cars since 1983. If the non s gets much better mileage and the car tests out to not be a slug, I just might go with the Justa. Just curious and also confused. Thanks, Dan

there isn't really too much of a drastic difference between the 4 mpg wise ... justa/auto/man and s/auto/man

if you're a turbo guy, you'll want the S

We are still on the first tank of gas in our MCCA and according to the computer we are getting 35mpg. So by using data I have received from other owners the hand calculation should be closer to 33mpg. So far we have driven 356 miles or so. Most of our driving has been simi spirited back roads driving.

I didn't mean to confuse anyone with my numbers. I didn't run my tank empty. Those were when I chose to get gas, which was usually between 1/2 and 1/4 empty, but sometimes less.

So what's the proper way of doing a hand calc?

Miles of driven divided by number of gallons used.

1. Reset your trip odometer when you fill up
2. Drive your car
3. Take the number on your trip odometer and divide it by the number of gallons you put in your tank on the next fill up. IE: 546 divided by 13 = 42 MPG.
4. Rinse and Repeat

Great! I was trying to think through how to get the most accurate reading for the gallons used portion without estimating...now I'm kicking myself for seeing how easy it is. Thanks. = )
