After thinking about it I decided to accept the car after seeing it and realizing it could have just as easily been scratched in the factory after the original paint job. My dealer was up front about the problem, and was very accommodating in the form of throwing in quite a few freebies that I was going to buy anyway, so it worked out. I say all this to say that you might want to hold off on flat-out rejecting the car over a piece of plastic, especially since you've probably gone through the anguish of tracking your Mini across the pond.
By the way - if you want to see one of the aforementioned VPCs - check out the Port Hueneme thread in the 1st Gear lounge. It's a pretty impressive facility and should allay some of your fears.

Hey it could be worst. When we were at the dealer in April to order my wifes Clubman we were watching a off loading of cars off the transporter when suddening the hydraulics failed on the upper rack. A 3 series BMW dropped right on the top of a white Clubman, made it look like one of those Bertone Volvos from the 80's. Sad sight to see. Smashed like a bug. I would of hated to make that phone call to the customer.

When I went to pick up my car there was a big deep 3" long scratch on the center of the steering wheel. Upon further inspection there was 2 stone chips right above the exhaust tip. I showed them to my MA and they kept the car for 8 days. The steering wheel cover required the replacement of the airbag module itself as you can't just replace the cover. The rear bumper was removed and filled in and repainted to my satisfaction.

The whole time I didn't have my car, I was given a rental car. The first day they gave me a Pontiac G6 but for the rest of the day I was given an 07 Cooper. I was glad to have any MINI to drive around and put approximately 1000miles on the odometer in 7 days

Point of my story? if you're not happy and they aren't willing to do what it takes to make you happy? then walk away
